Fairbanks Mayor threatens State on gas: Palin to respond

Fairbanks North Star Borough Mayor Jim Whitaker sent a letter to State Attorney General Talis Colberg today threatening to take certain legal steps if the state does not take immediate action to remedy the energy crisis in Fairbanks.

Stating that "Although state and local leaders are actively seeking solutions to the crisis, many in Anchorage, have been, at best, apathetic to these efforts", Whitaker has threatened to take various legal steps if the state continues to provide lower cost energy through Cook Inlet gas to Southcentral residents.

In response, Governor Palin has scheduled an announcement for Monday July 7, 2008, to address in-state gas use.

It would seem to me that

It would seem to me that everyone should just wait until this Palin announcement coming on Monday. Then see if Fairbanks and Anchorage and many politicians should throw more stones at the Queen. Or maybe she has something of help. I can wait 3 more days.

You've got to be kidding me

I have read your response for a couple days now and decided I just can't pass replying any longer. Give me a break - "wait 3 more days' while she creates a good press conference - which she is very good at. Unfortunately, Alaska doesn't need a good PR governor. We need a leader, some one with brains and knowledge of the subject. Well that is for another entry. Back to this person who is asking all of Alaska to just wait three more days until Queen Sarah gets her act together. Heaven help all of us if AGIA passes. I listen to different legislaTORs explain why they are going to vote for AGIA and gag. One explained they were voting for it because, although the questions being asked about treble fines and etc. are good ones, the fact that no one asks follow on questions after the administration gives their response shows there really isn't an issue. Please note the ones that understand the significance of how terrible AGIA is and vote against it and those that either don't get it or don't have a back bone. (Actually, I believe they are missing other parts but believe Andrew runs a family friendly forum.)

Apathetic Anchorage and State Administration

I'm glad to see a challenge from a community implying that Anchorage and the State Administration has no interest in anything that doesn't directly affect them. Take Southeast Alaska, for instance, and the debate over the road. One may debate which is better - improved Ferry service or a road up the Lynn Canal, but in the last 10 years there hasn't been a nickels worth of help from the Anchorage legislators toward helping transportation issues in Southeast be it road or Ferry. All one hears is that there are more pressing needs in Anchorage and the Valley. Too bad there isn't a way to bring a legal challenge over transportation funding. Plus, Anchorage folks have had a lot to say about what they think of roads and Ferry funding for Southeast Alaska. Perhaps it's time the rest of us get more involved in Anchorage's business. It appears that the pie will never be big enough for Anchorage folks and legislators to let someone else benefit. The new motto for Anchorage should be "Wild and Greedy". I hope Fairbanks follows thru and gets involved in Anchorage issues and lets them know that the rest of us in Alaska are tired of the apathetic, greedy, selfish attitude.
