Has anybody seen Mr. Open and Mrs. Transparency?

Two weeks ago we posted a few emails that were obtained by two different groups that had filed a freedom of information act request. Only some of the emails were released along with a 78 page list of emails that were not released due to executive privilege.

Last night, KTUU News ran a story about the emails and reported:

"E-mails from the Palin administration are being withheld from the public and the governor is citing executive privilege.

With subject lines like "Fagan," "Andrew Halcro" and even "Alaska Ear," it makes some wonder how those topics could possibly be policy related; especially since those same e-mails were copied to the governor's husband.

The administration says public employees need to know they can debate openly amongst themselves."

Debate amongst themselves? What pray tell would they be debating about some of those above referenced subject lines?

After all, it's not like the "Alaska Ear" is a confidential state policy that needs to be vetted before being released to the public.

But more importantly, the governor now paints a very hazy line where by simply classifying a communication as a need to openly debate could trump any freedom of information request.

Lets face it, these subjects don't rise to the level of executive privilege, and if these emails are ever released they'll simply show a bunch of high school sophomores including the governor bitching about people who have had the audacity to openly question her administration.

In one email that was released, the governor actually calls yours truly a "dumbass."

Not only does it highlight the lack of class that Palin has, but it's totally ironic coming from a governor who last week on national television answered a question from the host by saying, "I can't answer that question until someone answers for me what is it exactly that the Vice President does."

Seems the governor needs to repeat her sixth grade civics lessons.

During the KTUU interview last night, Governor Palin - whom you might recall ran on a platform of open and transparent government - said the emails were all "much to do about nothing."

Well governor, if they really are much to do about nothing as you say, then release them and stop hiding behind executive privilege.

In the meantime, we regret to inform Alaskans that Mr. Open and Mrs. Transparency have died in a tragic email accident.

Open and Transparent

My Dad always said that actions speak louder than words. You've just seen this administration's response to a FOIA request for documents -- the Tongue says, "Open and transparent," but the Action says, "Secret and opaque." So, the Governor has thrown down the gauntlet . . . are any of the FOIA requesters seeking an administrative appeal and/or a court order to determine the nature of the redacted emails? Apparently that battle needs to be fought. Otherwise, we will just leave "secret and opaque" in place behind the now laughable slogan of "open and transparent."

I'm sorry, but if any of this surprises you...

Really? Does any of this surprise you? Are you surprised that so far only minor stories appear on KTUU or ADN? We elected the Clampets to run the state, and in 17 months they're over their heads, and doing goofy things like this. Like sending out emails telling folks not to use state email address due to FOI requests, and by not using state emails violating state law by conducting state business on private email accounts. It's not disturbing that many folks who support the Gov. do so because they deeply believe she’s a good person and trust her. None of this matters to them. What is disturbing is many elected officials who KNOW better on matters such as this remain in awe of her glorious presence. She hires members of the press. Members of her administration date members of the press. Folks who worked on her campaign because they are honest folks have raised legitimate concerns and are vilified by the lackeys in Juneau. How DARE you question her Andrew, ‘cause it’s just sour grapes, right? How DARE Andree McLeod exercise her rights as a citizen to request information? How DARE Rick, Mike, Dan, Val, 2-Watt, Neocon Todd, Ryan, and the rest demand the governor do what she said she would do? Enough. Enough.

Not the Clampets, but white trash

Super Dave, you are usually on target with your observations, but I believe you are a bit wide of the mark when comparing the Palin gang to the Clampetts. The Clampets were hillbillies but generally an honorable group. The Palins are best described as white trash in that they are educationally, culturally, morally and ethically bankrupt. There is no background or depth of character to them, whereas the Clampetts were not educated but had character.

White Trash?

I lived in a trailerhouse in West Texas for a time, and I have seen "White Trash" with my own eyes. To describe the Palins as "White Trash" is demeaning and rude to anyone who ever lived in a "home" with removable wheels........

I stand corrected

Indeed Anonymous, I stand corrected. However, tell me Unlce Jed wasn't involved in some pyramid scheme, or Ellie Mae wasn't dealing in smuggled exotic animals? Jethro? Mob hitman. Grannie was running a bootleg liquor operation right in front of everyone. Miss Hathaway? Hollywood Madam. Hillbilly gangsters if you ask me.

...It begs the phrase..."I'm going to make you a possum stew you can't refuse"

Yeah, but...

they were all lovable characters. The Palin-Heath crowd are dysfunctional with few saving graces. And Todd would never strap Grannie's rocker to his snow machine, it would wreck his macho image. AH--I've tasted possum and you would be better advised to get whacked than to try to choke it down.

lackeys in juneau???

Lackeys in Juneau? There is no one left in Juneau.

Open and Transparent

Mrs. Palin is certainly transparent. In this mornings edition of the ADN she attacked Andree, refering to her as a hang around, serching for one of the sweet state jobs with "Her" administration. How dare anyone disparage this administration. Sound familiar? It sounds a lot like what she said not long ago about you Andrew. Completely tasteless, but expected........

No, Sarah. We're just holding you accountable.

Like you asked us to do.
"I feel like this is kind of a sport right now and that the haters and critics are really jumping," Gov. Palin said. "It's much ado about nothing in my opinion."
Release the emails and Alaskans will tell you if it's "much ado about nothing."

Email

Will Branchflower have open access to these emails? How can we as a state protect ourselves from a vindictive administration if Sarah and her team hide the evidence under the guise of Executive Privilege? One commenter stated that it would be pretty easy to erase emails from the state's hard drives. If this is true, then we as a state are extremely vulnerable to the actions of an obviously unethical administration.
