I endorse Lisa Murkowski...

June 3, 2010: The late Jay Hammond once wrote, "political endorsements are as satisfying as chicken lip soup." And with that...soups on.

Yesterday, former Governor Sarah Palin officially endorsed Fairbanks attorney Joe Miller for U.S. Senate in his bid to unseat incumbent Lisa Murkowski in the August Republican primary.

Last year, one of the first checks Palin's PAC wrote was $5,000 to the campaign of one Lisa Murkowski. Palin on her Facebook page tried to explain away the sudden change in support.

"Over a year ago, upon kicking off our Political Action Committee to assist candidates and promote competition in the nation’s electoral system, with no one willing to challenge the political machine at the time, and amid rumors that I would challenge Lisa Murkowski for the U.S. Senate, SarahPAC contributed to Lisa’s campaign. As she and I discussed, this was an attempt to reassure the Senator that I, as Alaska’s governor, had no intention of jumping into the race," Palin wrote.

But today is a different story:

"Unfortunately, Lisa Murkowski and much of the political establishment have recently evolved into being a bigger part of the big government problem in Washington, and they’ve strayed from the principles upon which they had espoused," Palin wrote on her Facebook page.

These comments highlight Palin's now visible political strategy for 2012.

The fact that Palin would attack Murkowski as having changed since Palin's PAC doled out five grand to aide her re-election campaign shows just how much Wally Hickel was right; "Sarah is about Sarah."

Since last June, Lisa Murkowski has opposed every big government initiative that has been proposed. She voted against additional bailout money, she voted against health care reform, she has been the leading Republican voice against Cap and Trade.

Lisa hasn't changed...Sarah has changed.

The Strategy...

Joe Miller has about as much chance of beating Lisa Murkowski as former big band leader Glenn Miller. And Glenn Miller has been dead for sixty six years.

So why would Palin endorse a guy who will garner 30% at the most and at the same time misrepresent Murkowski's record?

It's about a movement. A third party movement. A third party movement where she'll be the de facto cheerleader in charge.

Palin realizes her political future isn't with getting in good with the GOP establishment, her numbers are too negative. The road to 2012 goes right through a third party effort where she can garner support from Tea Party activist and her loyal supporters who are tired of both parties.

Palin has always needed someone else to blame to make herself viable, in 2012 she'll be railing against both parties.

Meanwhile, soup's on...come and get it.
