Oct 23: Matanuska Maid Update

NEW! Subscribe to RSS Feed

The word from Matanuska Maid has been quiet since they announced combined losses of over $400,000 for July and August.

I received an update this afternoon from a very reliable source.

The last milk pick up from Valley milk producers is scheduled for December 10th with Mat Maid plant closure scheduled for December 14th.

They have not settled pay issues with two of their top former executives subsequently the Department of Labor is now involved.

Accounts payables are mounting with a local trucking firm owed over $860,000.

The second largest dairy farmer left the state last weekend and left the Feds holding over $1 million in loans. The prior agriculture boards refused to loan them any money because the  state would have had to try to sell their cows or milk cows to recoup their losses.

The predictions of the prior agriculture board are starting to play out. If Palin would have closed it when it was recommended, it would have paid itself out and the asset would have been free and clear to sell and deposit the proceeds in the ARLF.

That would have been the right decision.

Mat Maid Dairy Halcro/Palin Argument

I just listened to the discussion between you and Gov Palin on Eddie Burke....I really did vote for you (and I will support you again). I know how you felt when you were attempting to elaborate on a point and she butted in and didn't allow you the time to finish. Eddie then went, "Let the Governor speak!" I'm smiling because you did the same thing to me when I was speaking to Mayor Begich on your radio show concerning the gross receipts sales tax (after waiting to speak for at least 30 minutes....so it goes). Sheesh!....but to the point, you did great. I think those who listened heard what you were saying. And you said it well. I was disheartened by just about everything she said. This lady is WAY over her head and lacks the common sense to even begin to address the challenges we face. I am thinking this is the person who is in the control of a multi billion public corporation....Omigosh! We really are in a heap of trouble. What scares me even more is no one in the legislature is really standing up to this administration. Instead the attitude is let her have more political rope...she'll hang herself eventually. Hmmmm.....I'm sorry. The people who will really be hung with us, our families and their future. Afterall, this is all really about future. I was amazed, but not surprised, by Senator Charlie Huggin's account of the special session made on Rick Rydell's show at the beginning of the week. I see the special session as a travesty, an abortion and a crime. When one hears the reasons for it, it especially appears it could have been more effectively and efficiently taken up during regular session during 2009 or even 2010. Yet just like Mat Maid, the Governor has again taken the eye off the ball, namely the development of the state's resources and placed it on the development of the only false resource her mind can wrap around, state government. We are hearing about corruption in the thousands of dollars and our government pours out millions in investigations, legal costs and accounting, yet right in plain site we see Juneau being bribed by the Governor with millions for the special session and we do nothing while members and staff of the legislature receive thousands for work they could have done a year or two in the future. Best Wishes

Mat Maid

Is anyone surprised? I mean really, has there been, (besides the jet), anything reflecting an effort to show even a small grasp of what it is to be Governor? I seem to recall Gov. Palin's press conference calling her hand picked board, "good people doing a fantastic job". Fine, selfless public service is something we can all appreciate, but COME ON!!! By the way, has the Gov. found her way to the capital for the special secession, or is she still busy elsewhere, "running the state of Alaska"?

I keep waiting to see Valley

I keep waiting to see Valley Realtor Kristan Cole on the news giving us the new numbers, but no! Where is she?
