Palin tapped as McCain's VP choice

NEW! Subscribe to RSS Feed

A few months ago I wrote on this blog that I thought there was no way that Governor Sarah Palin would be picked as John McCain's VP.

"Sarah Palin will not be chosen as McCain's Vice President and it has to do with a combination of a lack of experience and what she brings to the table," I wrote on July 7.

Today I was proven wrong.

This shocking choice says more about McCain's desperation than it does about Palin's qualifications.

At the age of 72, McCain would be the oldest newly elected president in U.S. history if inaugurated in 2009. In choosing Palin, McCain has put one of the least qualified politicians in the country a heartbeat away from the presidency.

With Republicans on the verge of spending the next 40 years wandering in the desert because of their inability to manage government, McCain's choice highlights that he just doesn't get it.

AK image...

So I guess I'm alright with Palin surprising the nation that we do have attractive people here in Alaska, but I'm not OK with Wasilla representing Alaska at a national level.

Promoting Alaska?

They'll turn Sarah towards the tides and hope she drowns in them. She's turned off more women than ever before. Don't believe for a moment her troopergate won't be picked apart by everyone. She's clearly in trouble and the fact she abused her own power of authority to have her brother-in-law fired just because he divorced her sister. Clearly, the man was tired of being repressed in a family that wrote the Bible on Repression. Palin is mean, spiteful and just as vicious as any Republican or woman scorned. This is not the person we want or need in the White House! Do you copy?

Palin a Liar?

Not being from Alaska, I didn't know much about Palin until I started reading about her this morning. Her lack of experience is one thing, but it seems she has a truth problem. I read in the ADN that she has tried to get polar bears off the endangered species list by saying Alaska biologists support her, when they did nothing of the sort - and 9 different Federal government studies said polar bears should be on the list. Regarding Troopergate, it is one thing to call Monegan about her brother-in-law, but yet another to say she didn't call him. Why wouldn't she just admit to it? I hope the public will really try to learn more about her before creating a cult of personality around her. I think this is a great thing for Obama/Biden.

Why wouldn't she admit it?

BECAUSE, Sarah Palin is a pathelogical liar and this will all become more and more clear as the weeks go by. Many know this but the national reporters now will be digging for anything they can get their hands on about her. The free ride is over.

It's Now Personal

The choice of Palin to possibly and probably be in a position of power to control my grandchildren's future is frightening! I thought that I could tolerate the election of either party if I had to, but that is no longer an option. This decision of McCain's is a strong indication of his compromised judgement. Please...someone give him a mental health evaluation. This is nothing short of insane. Can you imagine Palin sitting across the table with world leaders? We are the joke of the century.

Don't forget how close we are to RUSSIA!

I mean, Sarah is a foreign policy expert given our border with Canada and our proximity to Russia. This can only help McCain right?! How utterly laughable. I agree with you totally. I cannot picture Sarah meeting with our world leaders. I just hope all of the Americans posting on this blog and all of those that feel the same way, but haven't found this particular outlet, will put their money where their mouths are and vote Obama/Biden in Novemeber. Then all of this fear of her in office will have been for naught.

I'm still in shock. . . Good

I'm still in shock. . . Good night, Desdemona!! I had nightmares about Palin all night. Why would she want to get involved with one of the Keating Five? I think maybe McCain chose her because she was the politician with the least amount of dirt in her background compared to the other possible running mates. Remember that McCain believes that his constituents are the rich & powerful & not the widows who lost their life savings in the Lincoln S&L & American Continental Corp fiasco. He claimed at the time he was concerned about ACC because they were a major employer. What did he do to help those employees? His concern was Keating. Here in Alaska at that same time banks were being closed right & left. I know, I lost my job along with hundreds of others when the bank I worked for was closed by FSLIC in Jan '91. So I then worked for a credit union, I should have been safe, right? Not so! In July 2002 my entire department was outsourced to CA. I remember we would get emails from the bosses reminding us to vote for the republicans, but I'm glad I didn't. I have no job, no health insurance, but I do have a vote. I didn't vote for Sarah Palin & I won't vote for her now. Andrew, I voted for you. I've never voted republican since they decided they wanted to have their own seperate ballot here in Alaska. Why do we continue to see these seperate ballots? Anyone listed as a republican has no choice, they get stuck with that ballot. (I still think someone should be making a big stink about that. Maybe some enviromentalists could get involved as it's a huge waste of paper!) Well, thanks for letting me vent. . .

I don't believe in

Karma but you have to admit Andrew, this is pretty funny. A guy like you, who craves the attention of the masses, who, like the Buffoon known as Rick Rydell, continually seeks the patronage of people far greater than yourselves, just blew the chance of actually having the ear a Vice President of the United State of America. I can't believe you actually said; "In choosing Palin, McCain has put one of the least qualified politicians in the country a heartbeat away from the presidency." YOU'RE the guy who doesn't get it. McCain wasn't looking for a "Politician," he was looking for a running mate who will challenge the status quo in DC. He was looking for a person with honesty, integrity and the proven track record to take on all comers, no matter the size of the bully. He has found that in Sarah Palin. She not only regularly made the little people like you and Rydell look foolish and immature, she took on the real power brokers of this state and made them inconsequential. You’d have to look real hard to find an example of a person who has been so wrong, for so long about a person as you have been about Vice President Sarah Palin (OUCH! That must hurt every time you read that). You might as well take this blog down Andrew, you have become meaningless.

Rich you don't get it

Are you serious? "McCain wasn't looking for a politician" so what was he was looking for?? Anyone who could possibly save his sinking ship of a campaign and give him a chance to win, no matter what the cost might be. Mc Cain is willing to sacrifice the security of this country simply to BE ELECTED. What a complete sick piece of crap he is. Sarah Palin is no more able to run this country than her pregnant 17 year old daughter. Clearly the woman can't manage her own family and you think she can run a country??? Get over yourself Rich, you're an idiot. Andrew, I'm sure you already know this but my bet is your blog and new radio show is going to be more popular than ever. What a kick in the pants it will be. Best of luck on Tuesday!

I was wondering when someone

I was wondering when someone was going to mention her #2. Gramma Palin. Clearly, she is putting her ego ahead of her children and it is deplorable. Two steps back for women that's for sure. Her husband says she "gets fired up" when people challenge her on her ability to balance her work and family. Denial is dangerous and apparently it makes you a grandmother at an early age. Well, at least Trig will have a playmate.

I was wondering when someone

I was wondering when someone was going to address her #2. Gramma Palin. I actually feel sorry for the family though, because all of this is going to come out before November and clearly, if her children were dealing with their mother's political life in ANY sort of healthy way, her child wouldn't be in that prediciment. I feel it is two steps back for women to take on position's like this at the expense of the children they bore.

Every thing about Sarah Palin is a fraud

Rich, you are one of many in Alaska that continue to live in denial of the true character of Sarah Palin. I am a life long republican and first came to Alaska in 1953. I absolutely would not vote for her except to exile her out of Alaska. Our govenor continues to embarrass me as a citizen of Alaska. Sadly, she will do the same to McCain as the details of her deceits are brought to the world. She will turn on McCain like a surly cur dog, the same as she did to former Gov Hickel and Sen Murkowski and blame him when they fail. One of her major games is to blame others for her own short comings, which increase daily. What a sad spit of humanity she is!

This poster makes me laugh.

This poster makes me laugh. Time will tell. It was a gutsy stupid move on McCain's part. If Obama had picked Hillary Clinton, you can know that McCain would have never, EVER picked Palin! She could never go toe to toe with the knowlege and experience of Hillary. Now....let's get out the popcorn and wait for the Palin/Biden Debates! And wait til the Democrats do all their background work on Ms. Palin and her dirty little deeds. Good for Walt Monegan for saying what he did in today's ADN paper about emails and conversations Palin herself had with him about Trooper Wooten.

This sounds like Eddie Burke.

Sounds like Eddie Burke trying to explain why his strategy of being a water boy and sucking up and kissing Sarah's behunkus was a better strategy than telling the public the truth about our incompetent backwoods beauty queen. But then I noticed that most of the words were spelled correctly and the post, though erroneous, was coherent. I know Sarah wants the blog down, because now the entire nation will come here and find out how unbelievably arrogant, petty, unqualified, vengeful, etc. (the list is too long to mention in this small paragraph) our Governor (Sarah) and co-Governor (Todd) are. Welcome WORLD! Find out about Alaska's Queen right here. I wonder what position Todd will occupy if our Queen becomes ruler of the free world.

Palin

Too bad McCain now falls lockstep behind the Republican political corruption that he swore to fought after his Keating 5 debacle. Our poor Republican bretheren have become so desperate to maintain their centers of power that abuse of power has become just another innocuous status quo ... But, I believe Palin really does believe her own hype, esp about fighting corruption in AK, and like most self-delusionals she felt that she was either invisible or immune from even an accusation of corruption. Abuse of power; however, especially when woven in deception, becomes a wicked web that even karma cannot unweave! And to Rich who wishes that the voices of truth become meaningless, perhaps his own Karma will come back to haunt him and his political heroes...

getting out while the getting is good

I have given Sarah Palin's ditching the state a lot of thought over the last 24 hours. It sounds to me as if Mr. Monegan has emails from the Governor about Wooten. He stated he would turn them over to the investigator. If she were to get into the vice presidency she would get away with her misconduct and there would be no ability to impeach or recall her as governor. Since it appears that the current vice president has committed even worse breaches of law, she would have gotten away with it and fulfilled her over reaching ambition. It is not country or family first. It is and has always been Sarah Palin first.

Changing Parishes?

Suppose the republican party sees a future for Palin, and understands the implications of the taint she now has due to Troopergate. Maybe this VP nomination is orchestrated as a means of moving her away from the possible stink that will arise in Alaska over her abuse of power. Sounds like what I'd call the "Diocese Approach" of protecting a potentially useful party member. "Move 'em out before the stink settles on their reputation."

Honesty and Integrity

are not words I associate with Sarah Palin.

How can any woman in her

How can any woman in her right thinking vote for John Mccain. He has voted against your common issues. He doesn't believe you should have equal pay for equal work! He was on the campaign trail when this vote came up in the senate a couple of months ago and choose not to come off the campaign trail to vote for it. I would think since putting a woman on the ticket he would feel differently about our rights. Guess not. But, Hillary and Obama came off the campaign trail to cast that important vote. Why? Why would a woman vote for him? And if thinks because he has gun carring Sarah on the ticket that more women will vote for him he truly has lost his bearings. Here me out I am in Texas and women are outraged over this and yes we carry guns!

Exactly right!! She's an NRA

Exactly right!! She's an NRA member. So? She fishes and hunts. So? She is a Mom. So? She has a son serving in the military. So? I am a woman, here in an Alaska, who is also ALL of those things - I am non-partisan. I vote for who will do the BEST job, not to vote the party line. And I will be voting not just against McCain/Plain, but FOR Obama/Biden. Why? Because Obama/Biden will given this country back to us and give us what we've been craving. They will actually CARE about the things that are important to us in the majority of our lives, not just a few. Do I agree with them right down the line? No. I don't agree with Obama's abortion stance - I am hardcore against partial term abortion. I don't agree with their stance against drilling. I think we should drill. But those two things still are not enough to make me vote FOR McCain/Palin - because that ticket spells disaster for this country. That ticket will have us all on our knees begging for GW Bush to come back. No, thank you. Enough! Eight is enough! Women, please use your brains and think about this. Examine it from all angles. Please do NOT just vote for McCain because Hillary is no longer in this race. If you didn't hear her speak, please go online and listen. This race is far too important to our country to simply vote on emotion. This is our time...in so many aspects. Let's not throw this away.

McCain's pick of Sarah Palin

McCain's pick of Sarah Palin is astonishing. This is Dan Quayle in a skirt - is McCain serious? He met her twice at most before choosing her as the possible VP of our country? I've interviewed accounting clerks that often for internships in my small accounting department. Judging by McCain's body language yesterday at news conferences where he is standing next to Palin it seems McCain is not sure what to make of her. If McCain wanted a woman on the ticket to appeal to the Hillary's supporters maybe he should have considered asking Hillary. Surely there were other more qualified women out there. Move over Harriet Myers - I think you will have company in a few weeks.

Antichrist theories

Recently there were a bunch of fundamentalist/conservative "nuts" claiming that Obama is the antichrist because he "came out of nowhere." I think Palin has Obama beat on that one! I wonder if these fundamentalists will start blogs claiming that Palin is the antichrist!

Obama cannot be the

Obama cannot be the Antichrist as AC will be intelligent and deceive even the elect. The group supporting Obama lost the plot long before he arrived and have double digit IQs. Sarah cannot be the Antichrist as he is a he and she is a she. Neither can be the beast either because Sarah couldn't hide ten horns under that bun and Obama is way too clean cut. I'm guessing the Antichrist would more likely follow such leaders and amaze the world that he can bring order and peace in the aftermath of an Obama presidency.

McCain's Pick Shows Incompetency!

Alaska legislature approved a $100,000 investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin's motivations in firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. Palin has drawn criticism due to rumors that Monegan's firing was the result of his refusal to fire Mike Wooten, a trooper who is Palin's former brother-in-law. Palin has denied all this, but the way she's handled the whole matter was a demonstration of poor P.R. skills.

The most disappointing thing

The most disappointing thing coming out of this is how easy the members of my party are so quick to dismiss any accusation or management problems (or lack of abilities) Palin has. Then to top it off most are so quick to vilify Monagen, someone they know nothing about. I really feel for him and his family right now. Here's a man just trying to his job and two months later is getting slammed nationally because of Palin's disingenuous. He doesn't deserve this crap.

Palin as VP

I found this blog through an article about Palin in USA Today. The more I learn about her, the more I'm bewildered about her being tapped as John McCain's VP. I was a big supporter of Ron Paul, and my inclination has been either to write his name in or vote Libertarian. But as the day went on Friday, I kept thinking about this choice and wondering if something wasn't fundamentally wrong with John McCain's judgment. I don't believe I'm fear-mongering when I say that by choosing Gov. Palin, I sincerely believe that it puts America at risk. It's ironic, but until this point, the theme of the presidential campaign has been a referendum on Barack Obama's fitness and readiness for the Presidency. Now it's on John McCain's age, on John McCain's judgment. He's vouching for a person that he's met in person less times than the number of fingers on one hand. That's deeply troubling to me. In my mind all of a sudden, Obama seems to be the safer choice, when all along he's been the "new kid on the block". But the difference is that we've gotten to know Obama, and since the primary process is so painstakingly long and microscopic, indeed, 19 months now that Obama's been running, that he feels familiar. His VP pick was a reassurance that although he wants to bring change, he doesn't forget the value of experience and competence. But with McCain's selection, it completely undermines his central argument that Obama isn't ready, and it hurtles Sarah Palin onto the national stage and forces her to show in the next 9 weeks that she's got the knowledge, know-how, wisdom, and leadership to take the driver's seat at a moment's notice. For the record: I love Ron Paul. I want to vote for Ron Paul. But I love this country more, and if things get close, I'm pulling the lever for Obama/Biden.

@ Jason

Your post really touched me; especially, when you said I want to vote for Ron Paul but I love this country more and if things get close I will vote for Obama/Biden...Wow, it really really touched me. Its such a grown up thing to say. I'm glad there are people like you still left in the US even though it seems like there are less and less of folks like you around. Thx again for taking the time to write and post.

Jason,

as scary as the thought of Insane McCain's pudgy fingers next to the big red launch button with Sarah Palin clutching a bible nearby and reading from revelations truely is, you need to understand that the mainstream voter is at the root of the problem. If you want to help put a stop to the rigged election game, if you really want to make a difference and you want your voice of disapproval to be heard, then do VOTE! Vote for ANYBODY but the two buffoons, who have been pre-selected for you by the global elitist machine. Send a message, loud and clear: We refuse your choices. Vote Nader, vote McKinney, vote Ron Paul, vote Bob Barr, write in a vote, do whatever but don't support the corrupt system. Commit to a protest vote. Vote your conscience, do not vote under the “lesser of two-evils” threat because then YOU are part of the problem, not part of the possible solution.

Sarah's faith not enough to save Republicans

Sarah adds a credible faith element but why do "conservatives" keep supporting Republicans anyway? Conservatives used to reflect an idea of smaller more efficient government with strong state rights in the true form of our Union, a Republic. It seems that a blend of neocons and single issue religious voters have become the core of the Republican party. A core that is more than willing to continue dismantling our Constitution. What about smaller more efficient government? It is known that part of the reason the cowardly attack on the World Trade Center succeeded was the amount of bureaucracy and "walls" prevented actionable measures from being taken on pre-911 info. They responded by creating Department of Homeland Security, the largest bureaucracy in the history of our country. With The Patriot Act we are expected to patriotically surrender our rights but they wouldn’t let our own armed forces go in and kill Bin Laden when we had him cornered. Don’t pretend it was ever because of the sovereignty of Pakistan when drone attacks in their borders are now almost routine. This is a strategy to pursue War not Victory. Now we have a Democratic candidate wanting to do to more to protect individual rights and the Constitution than the so called "conservative". Spin all you like but it has been "liberal" Democrats who of late like Russ Feingold and Dennis Kucinich who have railed to protect our Constitutional rights. Since "liberal" is literally derived from Liberty maybe it shouldn't seem so shocking. Trying to protect something as broad as the rights of all Americans is less easily condensed into sound bites or talking points. Since the two party system has us completely hostage to every variety of special interest aside from the interest of America and her people. I will support the Democratic ticket as the only option of party who has a chance at power and has the best current track record of protecting and upholding the Constitution as they are sworn to do. It truly is mankind's best defense against tyranny foreign or domestic. If this sounds like paranoia just look at the European Nations that have subjugated their sovereignty in the form of the EU. Then look into the NAFTA Superhighway and then the SPP of North America already signed by Bush and the leaders of both Mexico and Canada in an almost complete media blackout on March 23, 2005. Google them, Yahoo them, whatever just please don't just dismiss the loss of our rights and the encroachment on our sovereignty as the inevitable price to defeat the tactic of terrorism. America has defeated mightier enemies than fear before.

You were wrong

You were wrong. And I'm so sorry.
