Rumors, thoughts and just plain lies

With special investigator Steve Branchflower now on the job and soliciting tips through an anonymous tip line as to why Monegan got fired, I thought we'd throw out two of the more interesting theories  we've heard over the last few days from various sources that have not been verified.

The disappearance of traffic tickets given to the governor or the failure to give the governor traffic tickets for moving violations such as having her child in a proper restraint.

The governor's propensity for calling her security detail and telling them that she was in a hurry and did not want to be stopped for speeding on her drive into Anchorage.

Both issues were apparently being challenged by Monegan.

She said...She said

On why she fired Monegan:

"I was concerned also that we were not doing enough on continuing alcohol abuse issues that I wanted to see tackled, including the bootlegging issues in rural Alaska"  Governor Palin 8/13/08

On the position she offered Monegan after she fiired him as commissioner:

"I recognized that Walt's interests and strengths could be put to good use as he could concentrate exclusively on a couple of issues that were his interest, that be bootlegging and alcohol problems in rural Alaska"  Governor Palin 7/18/08

So after firing Monegan for not doing enough to contain alcohol abuse and bootlegging in rural Alaska, she turned around and offered him a job to work on solving alcohol abuse and bootlegging in rural Alaska?

On why she fired Monegan:

"Unfortunately as my term progressed, Commissioner Monegan was not making headway on key goals, such as filling numerous trooper vacancies." Governor Palin 8/13/08

What she said in her State of the State speech:

"In Public Safety and Corrections, after years of positions left vacant, we've doubled academy recruits." Governor Palin 1/15/08

So after telling Alaskans that Monegan had doubled academy recruits to fill vacancies, she turns around and says she fired Monegan because he wasn't attracting recruits to fill vacancies?

My head hurts.

She said....He said

"Walt Monegan, after initially saying he couldn’t discuss the Wooten situation because it’s a personnel matter, he then flip-flopped, he started talking about it publicly." Governor Palin 8/13/08

Monegan only started talking about it publicly after getting kick around in the public by Palin while he was holding his tongue. She went on radio shows and accused him of being too cozy with the unions, she spread lies about him not doing his job when in fact he got fired for doing his job. Just not the way Palin wanted him to do it which included getting rid of her ex-brother in law.

This is what Monegan said in explaining why he broke his silence on July 19, 2008: "I'm watching the stresses put on everyone I used to work with. And, these guys are good people," he said. "This may be one of the few things, one of my last things, to support them.

Frank Bailey

If this guy doesn't get fired there is something definitely wrong. If the governor is as outraged as she said after finding out that Bailey called Trooper Dial and falsely represented that he was calling on the governor and her husbands behalf, the guy should have been fired by the governor before she was done listening to that 24 minute recorded phone call ended.

The problem for Palin is Bailey knows way too much.

And his involvement is very clear in the Wooten matter as he reveals in his recorded phone conversation that a number of people disagree with the idea that Monegan needs to take action and he continues to try and push the issue.

In addition, this once again brings up the question about the 1100 emails that this administration refuses to release. Most of them were generated by Bailey or included Bailey on the conversation string.

We've already posted two emails where Bailey appears to be coordinating a job offer with Bill McAllister while McAllister was still covering the Palin administration for KTUU and assisting a Palin campaign supporter a job with the DOT in Fairbanks.

Bailey holds more power than Palin's Chief of Staff.

Can anybody ever remember any administration where the Director of Boards & Commissions held so much sway within an administration?

Not in this political lifetime.

Mike Tibbles

Word is that after yesterday's press conference where poor Mike Tibbles name was tossed around like a football, the guy can't wait to get some face time with Branchflower.

Ditto for others who aren't saying much but when put under subpoena will sing like canaries.

Legislative Council

The legislative council meets Monday (8/18/08) at 10am, downtown at the LIO to get a briefing from special investigator Steve Branchflower.

One lawmaker has said they will talk about creating a list of individuals to subpoena and wants the governor at the top of the list.

The governor on the radio

I received a couple of emails today from people who had heard Palin on the Bob & Mark show this morning and then again on the Eddie Burke show this afternoon. These shows are Palin's safe havens. Her sanctuary when she wants to poke her head out but only in very friendly confines.

One reader emailed:

Andrew, Did you happen to listen to KWHL's Bob and Mark show this morning, after about 8:30?   The doting guys were "interviewing" their buddy Sarah, y'know, about all this, y'know, "crap" being said about her... [her dialogue always sounds like Jr.High kids chatting].   And they were gently trying to coax her honest "real" reasons for letting Monegan go...   How entertaining.

I grew up in the land of the original "valley girl" dialect (Southern California, near the San Fernando Valley, which is the "valley" that the original phrase was coined after),  and like guy, y'know, she sounds just soooooo, like, y'know, one of them.    Right out of any scene in the wonderfully mocking comedy "Clueless"  a few years ago!  Y'know?

As the governor you'd think she'd accept all offers but she has consistently turned down offers to appear on other shows.

Last month KENI afternoon host Mike Porcaro invited Palin to appear as a guest after the Monegan scandal broke and was told no because she was forbidden to speak about personnel issues.

However on that same day, she was yucking it up in the morning with Bob & Mark as well as Eddie Burke in the afternoon while discussing the Monegan firing; the very thing Porcaro was told she couldn't dicsuss.

Palin doesn't venture out to shows outside her comfort zone, because she is afraid that Porcaro and others will ask her tough questions on the air that she'll be forced to answer.

The governor is no Saracuda...she's more like Saraleecupcake.

Rumors

It struck me that Sarah Palin looks like a young Leona Helmsley, the deceased hotel billionaire also known as the Queen of Mean. She got the Queen of Mean nickname for her legal defense against tax evasion when she claimed her fearful staff did illegal acts for her benefit without her knowledge in order to ingratiate themselves with her. I fully expect Gov. Palin to employ the Queen of Mean strategy right up to her sentencing, removal, or lost election, whichever comes first.

Wooten is Sarah's former brother-in-law

I meant to say former brother-in-law, not brother...

Eddie Burke & Sarah.

At first I thought some junior high school prankster was coming to Halcro's website, misspelling simple words and acting like a moron, and then signing Eddie Burke's name, to try and make Eddie look bad. But after listening to Eddie Burke's show yesterday, I now believe that the person posting here as Eddie and the buffoon on the radio talkshow are one and the same. It floored me when I heard Sarah on his talkshow saying that the whole reason she started investigating HERSELF, was to save the taxpayers some of the $100,000 that the Legislature had authorized for the independent investigation. How stupid does she really think Alaskan's are? Never mind. Don't answer that question. But seriously, to save taxpayers money, why don't we just let every crook who ever did anything wrong just investigate themselves. Just think of how many fewer crooks we would have. And then Eddie chimes in that we aren't really even talking about crime being committed in the Wooten matter. Sarah wasn't looking for a big payout or trying to steal a bunch of money, says Eddie. No. The Palin crew was just trying to get Sarah's former brother fired because little Sis was having problems with child custody. That's not money. So what if he can't get a job. So what if he can't visit his children. No biggie. Unlike Sarah, I bet Wooten even buckles his kids in their car seats. Listening to an uneducated suck-up go gah-gah over Sarah: 2 cents Reading Andrew Halcro's Blog: $1000.00 Listening to Sarah explain she is INVESTIGATING HERSELF to save the taxpayers money: Priceless.

One call maybe...

But calls to everyone and the Juneau janitor by Bailey & her satff come on it is just tooo "transparent" applied pressure = coercion!

Monegan's Silence

One additional point regarding Monagan's apparent "flip flop" as charged by the governor: He had initially said that he wouldn't discuss the Wooten matter as it was a personnel issue. It wasn't until Wooten himself untied Monagan's hands by making his previously confidential personnel file public that Monagan began to talk. He initially wouldn't because he was bound by honor and law, neither of which seem to be binding concerns of our governor.

Bob and Mark, OVERRATED

The fact that Palin continues to go on that stupid morning show, Bob and Mark, is enough to impeach her. They're idiots. They were demeaning Alaska natives long before those other morning dummies Woody and Wilcox were. Is it too late to bring back Frank Murkowski? It baffles me that she's so popular. Why are Alaskans such sheep?

If the emails are any indication...

...Branchflower is going to need to hire staff to take care of the flood that's going to hit that tipline. It looks like folks who didn't want to say anything before may be getting pissed-off enough to open up.

If in fact the rumors are true...

regarding the lack of proper restraint for baby Trig, then one could safely assume NO ONE around her is safe. If she is willing to risk her child's life....oh, wait,....she already did that when she traveled transcontinentally with preterm premature rupture of membranes without seeking proper medical care prior to flying. Perhaps Branchflower could investigate this action as well.

Ignore the Queens Jester

Andrew, Please keep up the great work but ignore the nonsense from Eddy. He is like the sad jester who doesn't know when he is being used or laughed at. Print his confused, illogical ramblings but you really can't expect to have a meaningful exchange with a clown. Did I read that he actually accused you of being "scared of a girl". Wow that is all you need to know about this nut. He and his idol Sara are stuck in the 10th grade.

Fire wooten Andy

Andy you crack me up. Here you want Baily fired, but you are out to save a "Bad Cop." I just don't get you?? Have you no honesty? Trooper Wooten is a discrace to all the "Good Troopers" out there who Protect and Serve. You are protecting a Trooper who Drinks and drives in a Trooper Car, Tazes a 11 yr old child, Threatens the life of his fatherinlaw, Unlawfully Shoots a Moose and abused his ex-wife. Thats a good cop Andy? Tell us why he deserves to stay on the force and carry a badge? Tell us Andy.. please. Please explain how these actions show the Troopers as good honorable public servants? Enlighten us on why Baily should be fired but not your very good friend Mikey Wooten. Eddie

I'm not sure what is more dense: Eddy's head or gold

Eddy, Eddy, Eddy, Just can't understand the way things work in the USA. Nobody, and I mean nobody, believes differently than you do that Mike Wooten, based upon what we know, is a bad guy - a real jerk. In spite of and contrary to the Governor's glowing letter of recommendation for him in 2000, he's proven otherwise. But, my little buddy, he's had his day of due process and he's been punished. He has been punished as much as he can be without his employer doing something illegal. And that's the point. Stay with me - I know this is a lot for you to process. Again, nobody says differently about Mr. Wooten. In this country, you can't be put in double-jeopardy; what is done is done, and that, my friend, is why Monegan had to do what he did and was also very sensitive to pressure to do otherwise. He (and his successor by the way) do not have a choice with Wooten other than to consciously break the law, opening himself, the department, the Governor and the State up to a horrendously large lawsuit that we would lose. That is how things work in this country. Sadly, you swing and miss every time - understand that it's not at all about Wooten and how fit or unfit he is to serve in your eyes or anyone else's. For you to not understand this is almost laughable and it makes you look downright stupid. But............here's the kicker..........I believe deep down inside you know this. When your gal got caught and the heat is on and unrelenting based on the concept of law, this is the only defense you and her other devout defenders can throw out there. It's unbelievably similar to Mr. Bill Clinton - it wasn't about whether he had sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky - not at all - it's about whether, when pressed under oath, he lied. And it turned out he did and was impeached for it. If true that she abused her powers to get Wooten, what Palin did is also against the law in this country. Do you comprehend this my good lad? (If not, I will truly recognize your apparent lack of mental capacity)

Back @ U

Eddie ... Please explain why you deserve to carry a cell phone. Do U snd nau-t txt msgs. 2 the guv, 2?

Ah, Eddie, working on some show prep?

Eddie, as an accused hater, I will state to you, slowly, that I believe Trooper Sweet Baby Wooten, does no honor to the uniform. Whether the numerous reviews performed due to complaints from the Palin clan were or were not justified, he's not going to win "Guy of the Year" anytime soon from the Super one. Having said that, what is the fate of the family that ate the moose with Wooten? What should we think of a mother so concerned about her son being zapped that she did, nothing? What about the Good Gov's own words denying that anyone from her administration spoke about the troubled trooper? Eddie, you speak of truth, and honesty, but it seems you're more concerned about it than the woman you worship. Sad. I'm not part of the "old school" Republican Alaskans. I moved here 15 years ago. I'm not even a registered Republican. I don't have a Young or Stevens sign in my front yard. I don't work for "Big Oil". I don't fit the mold of your "Church of Palin Haters". What I am, is someone who looks very closely at a person who claims to be without sin, when I am a sinner. I watch and listen for the signs of failure and falsehood, and I pity those who don't try. You are the the preacher to the masses of true Palin believers, and not even Bob and Mark come close to your skill. Some day, Don and Ted will be gone, and Sarah will be out of office. What will your cause be then? Who will you worship when your goddess is gone? I know the press conference the Gov. held meant nothing to you. I know you believe she was unaware of the conversations regarding the troubled trooper. But Eddie, the earth isn't flat, the sky isn't purple, and the moon isn't made of green cheese. Sorry

The reason is simple, Eddie...

...Mike Wooten has already gone through the Trooper version of "arraigned, investigated, tried and punished"...or are you a proponent of double jeopardy? Should we be able to go back in anyone's record, including yours, and re-punish folks for whatever "crimes" we feel weren't "punished enough?" There's this little thing called legal precedent in this country that speaks pretty clearly upon that. There's also a pretty extensive legal precedent on the misuse of Legislative powers.

...In addition, I'd add that not firing Bailey after a significant breach of conduct (falsely representing the governor on an official phone call) then it certainly appears to be  hypocritical for her to complain that the Troopers protected one of their own. AH

Eddie

I realize that you don't have the mental capacity to understand your own flawed logic, but can you not understand that Trooper Wooten is not the issue? Can you not grasp that Trooper Wooten recieved "Due Process" under the rules that applied when these allegations were made several years ago? Do you understand that this was investigated, and he was punished for these issues prior to Sarah becoming Governor? Can you not fathom that this is an attempt by the Governor to take out her vengance on a someone for a perceived slight on her family? Trooper Wooten is not the issue, as much as you and the rest of the Palinbots would like it to be. No matter how much you scream it on the radio, no matter how many press conferences Sarah holds, no matter how many times she makes backhanded references to "this trooper" and his illicit(that means bad) behavior. The reality of this situation is this, Sarah Palin has missued, and abused the power of the Governors office, and or, been so completely inept and ineffectual as a leader as to allow this behavoir, that she may well be impeached, and removed from office. She has absolutely no grasp of the situation, nor do any of her blind followers. I'm affraid that you are part of this latter group Eddie. It's a shame that you cannot open your eyes to see the real issue right in front of you. I could agree with you if it weren't so obvious that you have been hoodwinked by the most popular snake oil salesperson to ever disgrace the halls of the Governors mansion. I hope that for your own sake you can get over this infatuation with Sarah and see her for the person she truly is, not just the one she claims to be. Neocon Todd

I'l try one last time

I'm not opposing the investigation against the Gov. I'm asking to investigate the DPS punishment of Wooten too. Yes, he has been punished, but if there was a "Cover-up" and the punishment is not consistent with Trooper guidelines, then an investigation is warranted. Those who have piled in here to trash me are more concerned about nailing the Gov and running me down instead of uncovering corruption. Just because one has been investigated does not preclude the DPS or the FBI from re-opening that case. This is where most you and I disagree. You think the punishment Wooten received was fair and appropriate. I don’t and neither does most Alaskans. Only people that resort to calling me Dumb-ass, stupid, jerk, not worth listening to and a waste of time believe that mess. If all of you would quit slobbering all over your selves with hate for the Gov, you might join me and ask the FBI and the DOJ to investigate this issue too. What are you afraid of? We can have two investigations and see where it goes. “Let the cards fall,” as one blogger told me. Here is why you will not join me: You think it might bring out the true story of a cover-up within the DPS and the Governor might be vindicated… That’s why. You’re afraid your boy Wooten is too dirty to survive it. (By the way where do you have Big Foot or Lurch hidden?) If the FBI and the DOJ brought out any evidence of any wrong doing by DPS, politically the Governor is a hero. I’m not afraid of investigating the Gov… go for it, but will you join me in my phone call to the FBI? I’m waiting… holding my breath. Eddie Burke... Dumb ass, stupid, High School, loser, trailer park, got anything else? LOL!!

And you are a disgrace to the educational system...

There are simply too many spelling errors to waste my time correcting. Perhaps your wife could proof-read for you, Eddie, before posting. You look like a fool, a really stupid fool.

Eddie...a disgrace to the educational system....

Eddie, Type your stuff on Microsoft Word. Do a "spell check", then "copy" and "paste", to AH's comment section. I get a headache reading your stuff. Trying To Be Your Friend.

This email is a great

This email is a great example of why I quit listening to KBYR. Eddie Burke is a (barely) functional idiot who has a fundamental misunderstanding of the issues at hand. I'm glad you didn't address the issues pertinent to this case, Eddie- to do otherwise would be way out of character for you. Way to tow the company line- and I'm glad you finally got someone to spellcheck your posts, you punch-drunk jackass.

COWARD Eddie Burke

The COWARD Burke-- KBYR radio, home of Eddie Burke, a long-time uber-conservative Anchorage talk show host. Turns out that Eddie Burke not only announced the rally, but called the people who planned to attend the rally 'a bunch of socialist baby-killing maggots,' and read the home phone numbers of the organizers aloud over the air, urging listeners to call and tell them what they thought. The women, of course, received some nasty, harassing and threatening messages. So I sent KBYR a note myopinion@kbyr.com Sirs: I have never heard of greater cowardice than that of Eddie Burke, YOUR employee. To be dressed in male attire, and to then deliberately expose females to danger is truly a Sheep in Wolves clothes. A junkie scum purse snatcher at least has to BRIEFLY face his female victim. YOUR employee hides in the safety of his cubicle and publicly TARGETS females so that they may be assaulted by his equally cowardly allies. Lurkers who fear the light as do cockroaches. This person Burke is what you put forth as a "conservative"!? MEN stand for ladies, offer them their seat, and even, as on the Titanic, die so the females may survive. NOT Burke, that rodent and his vermin ilk would be throwing ladies out of the life boat so he could have more room. Burke is no CONSERVATIVE and he is NOT a man. John Sweeney

I change my radio channel, too!

Whenever his show starts, I change the channel, too. Too bad for KBYR!

I cringe!!

Nicely put! I literally would cringe when listening to Eddie Burke. Did they hire him off the street or what? My 7 year old niece could do a better talk show. I would rather listen to cats fight outside my bedroom window!

I'm ashamed...

... to say I actually used to listen to Eddie and voted for Palin. He just doesn't seem to understand that the issue is not whether or not Wooten deserves to be a trooper. The issue is whether or not our elected officials are acting properly. Seems strange that Eddie continues to villianize the deeds of Ted Stevens and Don Young, but blindly defends Palin. I can no longer listen to a man who cannot be intellectually honest. Keep up the good work Andrew. I apoligize for not voting for you in the last election. You have my support in the future!

Eddie

Eddie, no one wants Frank Bailey to get fired. We like that he's there, "helping" the governor. This issue has nothing to do with Trooper Wooten. It's all about Sarah. Let the chips fall where they may. It is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong. -Voltaire

Andrew,All I can say is

Andrew, All I can say is keep up the good work! P.J.

Rumors - High maintenance

At a recent meeting outside, I spoke with a very reliable source that indicates that at the recent Governor's Association meeting the security people for all the Governor's voted SP as the most high maintenance Governor.

"get me this... take me there... pick me up now... go get this..." Check with her security guy, he will confirm.

High Maintenance at home

I have been told first hand by the director of a non-profit in ANC that the GOV was very demanding when she made an appearance at one of their events.

In fact, the director had to assign one staff member just to attend to the Governors demands. This was a non-profit that doesn't have enough staff, anyway.

I wouldn't be shocked...

if she tasked them to raise her children as well.

Disappearance of tickets

If traffic tickets disappeared, that means two things: she didn't pay like any Alaskan, and she didn't get points on her license. This should be referred to Branchflower to determine the truth. If it is true, it is abuse of office. Same with the alleged speeding and asking the cops to look the other way.
