Stimulus Politics

(3/20/09) It appears lawmakers in Juneau are feeling burned over Governor Palin's announcement yesterday that she was declining 30% of the federal stimulus money. The most controversial chunk of change left on the table was $170 million for education that has both lawmakers and education professionals stunned.

Lawmakers are apparently upset because they thought they had a deal with the governor on what funds the state would be keeping and now she has put them in a position where they'll look like the spenders while she polishes her appeal to conservatives who are courting her for 2012.

This was an email I received this morning from a legislative leader:

Here’s the scoop on the Big Stim funding.  Until 24 hours before her press conference, the Governor was going to accept most everything, and reject a few items that we all pretty much agreed were not acceptable.  Most of the Big Stim money is really pretty benign and does not require unsustainable new permanent programs.

The issue became a big tug of war for control of the Gov between folks in state government and Sara PAC.  Sara PAC won, literally hours before the announcement was made.  Alaska was sacrificed again to the godless pagan illusions of her national ambitions.

Why would we Alaskans ever

Why would we Alaskans ever turn down these stim $$$ when we are going to be paying for them over the years anyway? And when does Alaska reject (or NOT ACCEPT) fed $ just on the matter of principal?

Untrustworthy

I can think of no better way to drive away private sector capital than to have a state administration who is as demonstrably untrustworthy as is ours. Only 625 more days to go before our next governor takes office. Let's pray that the legislature can at least mitigate the damage our 'Evita' and her sycophants will cause.

Not rejecting/just not accepting

Now, now.... she's not REJECTING the stimulus money for education. She's just NOT ACCEPTING it! Circle the musk ox.... do they think we're stupid!!??

There's a difference

The difference between Sanford and Jindal verses Palin is they made the argument that this act really lacks anything substantive to stimulate the economy, it wasn't just about the dangers of expanding the size of government.

I just can't understand any

I just can't understand any of the Palin supporters. Palin repeatedly shows herself to be unethical, a liar, whiney, and lack any sense of accountability. When you try and discuss the PLAIN FACTS with one of her fans- they turn it into a party issue or stand by PALIN FACTS instead of the truths. The fact is that Palin;s own words are the best examples of what is wrong with her. She keeps changing her statement about the stimulus money- what better example to show that she can't be trusted. The latest tidbit was a statement released that said she didn't turn down the money- she just didn't accept the funds. She wants to play political games and avoid any accountability- as always! People seem to give her a lot of support - on what is suppose to be PALIN"S FAMILY VAlUES. While it would be completely off base to question those values just based on having an unwed teenage daughter - there are facts involved that do turn the issue into one about family values. Bristol being an unwed mom- just makes her one among many. HOWEVER- PALIN ALLOWING HER DAUGHTER"S BOYFRIEND TO MOVE INTO THE HOUSE IS ABOUT FAMILY VALUES. Levi was living there until the recent break up. PALIN"S decision to allow her daughter's boyfriend to move in with them - is no standard for family values. SO, why do people keep insisting Palin has values and ethics when clearly she doesn't? Is it just because she gave birth to a special needs child? Well flying during labor with him from TX to AK- keeps her from being caring mom of the year. Many- if not most- pro-choice people would not take such a risk! NOw you have Palin turning away education funds- which by the way, is in party for helping special needs children . So again- I keep asking why support Palin? Where are Palin's ethics, values and accountability? --Believer in Truth, Integrity and Ethics

Can't She Be Recalled By The Citizens?

Or impeached for failure to govern?

Whadaya know...

The link on the State of Alaska website to information about recalling the governor leads to an Error 404/dead-end. Coincidence? You tell me. SOA - Initiative, Referendum And Recall Information

Andy

The rejection of the Fed money for education serves a few selfish purposes.Firstly, the State is supposed to be funding education, but it isn't in the urban centers. The disbursement of more funds toward education would bolster the lack of funding argument. Secondly, when the money dries up, the programs won't, further burdening the soon to be bankrupt State. And lastly, the governor is polishing her image for the national 2012 run. She needs to feather her hat with red conservative feathers. At the moment her plumage is flaming blue and liberal. She may actually allow business to go forward without exhorbitant taxes and pernicious permitting process to change her image...we can only hope.
