The email boomerang

On Wednesday, an ethics complaint was filed against the Palin administration, accusing them of favorable treatment in hiring a campaign supporter of Governor Palin's.

The complaint originated from emails uncovered in a recent freedom of information request that was filed by local Anchorage resident Andree McLeod.

The governor and her staff quickly explained that there was no favoritism, and the emails were taken out of context and failed to represent the entire set of circumstances surrounding the hiring of Tom Lamal in Fairbanks.

Unfortunately, instead of simply explaining the misunderstanding to the press and leaving it at that, Palin did what she has become famous for; attempting to shoot the messenger.

According to Kyle Hopkins at the Anchorage Daily News, in an interview with Governor Palin about the complaint she said, "This is the same Andree McLeod that follows us around at public events and camps herself out in our waiting area and hounds us for a job, asking us if there's a way she can go around Workplace Alaska and not have to go through the system to get a job with this administration,"

Palin also tried to disparage Mcleod by referring to her as the "falafel lady".

Easy there governor, you're not the only one who has been keeping emails.

Between 2002 and 2005, McLeod amassed quite a library of emails from one of her biggest fans; Sarah Palin.

That was a great letter to the ed. this week Andree. I haven't had time to call but wanted to tell you it was, again, insightful & educational & good writing.

I'm still disenchanted with the whole issue of RR and state politics and am not even very optimistic about the call for an independent investigation. We'll see. I guess I'll believe it when I see it.

Hope you're doing well, staying warm & staying on top of all these state issues I'm hearing about on the news!

Love,
SP

Subject: Alaska Statutes AS 39.52.250. Advice to Former Public Officers.

Other quotes from Palin to McLeod (circa 2002-2005)

Don't you think the (Murkowski) Administration is blind to not see the potential in channeling your energy and intentions and motives and intelligence towards helping them... if only they'd listen?!

Ugh! I know you must get so frustrated because you’re all about accountability!

Thanks for working to instill public trust in all this Andree!

Thanks Andree!  I hear ya!  And I'm proud of all the expert advice you're giving to so many... it seems I hear your name and comments so often in the media.  I'm proud to know you!!!

Thank you Andree.. you are always so encouraging!

I sure wish the (Murkowski) Administration would listen to the good ideas of people (like you!) who have Alaska's best interest at heart.  Keep giving them advice.  Keep participating via talk shows & letters, etc.  We need more Alaskans involved.

I forgot to tell you I heard you on the news last week about this subject... you did great!  See... people listen to you and you do make a difference and I hope you keep it up!

Did you hear us talking about you on the Mike Pocaro show Monday evening?!  It was a hoot!  He was impressed with your efforts on the VanEten issue & I called in to say "Kudos to Andree... she's obviously got tireless energy and desire to keep government and government officials accountable to Alaskans... we need more "Andrees" in this state... etc..."  And then that gal, "Michelle" (who calls in a lot) called right after I did to say, "Sarah Palin just needs to stay out of Anchorage politics... blah blah blah..."  and the show went on with you as the highlight for callers!  It was awesome.  Ya' done good again!!!

I read your letter to the editor just now - it's soooo good!  As I figured, it takes a different angle and makes one think.  It's very helpful for people to read from an unexpected perspective.  Thank you for writing the letter.

wow!  again!  YOU ARE A WRITER... I'll bet your son is, too.

You will be thanked for summing up for others what many believe: that there's nothing wrong with healthy debate and challenges to the status quo when something is wrong & it can easily be fixed!

you are bold - and i don't want randy or anyone else coming down on you for speaking your mind... but that's exactly what your letter is explaining to Alaskans, that speaking our minds will strengthen our party!

Holy Moly you are powerful regarding getting the word out to the press about questionable activity!

So in just a few short years, Andree McLeod has gone from someone who Palin described as being "all about accountability" to being the "falafel lady".

Sarah Palin and Barack Obama

There is a much more interesting story about the corruption in Chicago featuring the Obamas and Valerie jarrett who travels with Obama as an advisor: How about researching the ties and MONEY TRAIL between OBama, Valerie Jarrett, Michelle Obama and her refusal to treat the poor in Chicago? My question is this: How did Valerie Jarrett who managed a run down apartment building in Chicago which got taken over by the state due to incompetence, get to be on the board as chairwoman at the Chicago hospital where Michelle is a VP?? And how much money did she get from Obama for her efforts? And why did he say in a Boston Globe article that he wasn't aware of the condition of the apartments in the city when he was an attorney defending the owners of the apartments from being sued by the people living in them? And how about doing a story on Michelle turning away the poor from her hospital? These are the ones the Obama's are supposed to be helping and she turns them away?? Sarah Palin's honesty problem

Look up Narcissistic Personality and see if you don't recognize some of the characteristics.

Am I the only one to find it

Am I the only one to find it ironic that only defense that the posters here have on a thread highlighting Palin's "shoot the messenger" philosophy is to continue shooting the messenger?

How Andree got her position with the State of Alaska

https://webapp.state.ak.us/apoc/contributions.jsp?name=ANDREE+MCLEOD&pagesize=20&offset=21 Maybe it's just me, but I think a $1000 campaign contribution to the Murkowski campaign indicates that there is more to this story than has been told.

Giving Money

So if Andree gave money to Frank, then worked to support Sarah, then found out Sarah, who sent Andree a string of supportive emails, and may be a bit of a loon, is right, then why would St. Sarah, who sent Andree a string of supportive emails, now turn on her and dismiss her out of hand? If we voted out anyone who got a campaign contribution from Vecco, who would be left? Not the good saint, who every 2 weeks gets a paycheck from Big Oil. Let's not chuck too many stones in our glass houses, shall we?

My theory on the Falafel Lady (aka Andree McLeod)

Andree McLeod DID give money to Frank's campaign ($1000 for the 2006 State Primary). She also sent several e-mails back and forth to Sarah sometime well before that criticizing the Murkowski Administration. I would say she was trying to hedge her bets & keep all her options open. Of course, after Sarah didn't come through with an appointment for Andree, Andree turned against Sarah. Honestly, I think Sarah Palin's harsh remarks are those of someone who has been stabbed in the back by a trusted friend (i.e., Andree). And by the way, calling her the "Falafel Lady" is NOT meant to be disparaging. Anyone who has been involved with politics for awhile should remember the falafel incident. It gained Andree a LOT of press and even she called herself the "falafel lady" at several Assembly meetings. Grow up, folks, and don't take yourselves so seriously.

Super Dave!

(I apologize for hijacking your blog, Andrew, but I need to get in touch with Super Dave.) I have a little something for you, Dave. Shall I leave it at the front desk at Morris Communication? I'm really bummed you're not hosting Fagan today.

The Falafel Lady

Andrew, I have great respect for you. Therefore, I hope you have the wisdom to disassociate yourself from the "falafel lady." Andree is a bright, but misguided, woman. She is a bit like a female version of Ray Metcalf: a true political gadfly who loves "stirring the pot." She's run, quite unsuccessfully, for several public offices. The only difference between Ray and Andree is that Andree's allegiance seems to change as the wind blows. If we want to talk ethics, has anyone looked into Ms. McLeod's track record: Are you aware she gave $1,000 to Frank Murkowski for the 2006 State Primary. Perhaps it's JUST a coincidence, but she later became a State employee. Open and transparent she is not. Lest you think this is mere mudslingling on my part, it is not. These are statements of fact. I've watched Ms. McLeod from the sidelines since about 1999 trying desperately to gain attention. Hopefully, she's gotten her fill for now.

Disparaging Andree McLeod

We shouldn't be surprised by Mat-Su Barbie's response to Andree McLeod's complaint. She is being true to her normal MO. This is similar to her attacks on Lyda Green and Gigglegate. She is supposed to be a woman in her 40's with a college education. But her email string to Andree and her snotty response to the ethics complaint are more typical of an immature 15 year-old who turns bitchy when people don't think she's pretty. Palin has serious problems and should get some therapy. Maybe she could get a group rate for the whole Palin-Heath gang.

Your comment didn't even hide it's sexist content

All of your negative images are female. This was glaringly obvious to this female who lives off the road system College educated, yep Working class roots - yes to that too - which is how college got paid for I live better because I worked hard and keep working hard- and smart- just like everyone else does or wants to. And I am not Mat-Su Barbie or anywhere near Juneau. Bush women read too. And this is the first time I have posted. Your post was just too much to let go by. I am not related to Palin or anyone else involved or on this list and I didn't even vote for her the first time. But I do pay attention to process, particularly when it disparages women. My personal take is that you are not fair in your comments to women or even to an individual who posted, apparently because she threatens something you hold dear. Your comments on the other hand seem to praise women only when they agree with your position. Show some respect for those who differ in opinion. Discuss ideas, and stop making personal attacks based on gender. Is it OK for anyone to take a state job after making a contribution? You seem to support the position that it is OK since Andree supported Frank and she got one and you clearly think she is in the right here. I want to know if anyone went around Workplace Alaska, because that isn't fair. If it isn't a problem, she should have put her application in. Haven't heard that she ever did. If not, why not? It isn't a male/female issue. It is about what is right, pulling out from state practices what is wrong and not being any less stringent in the hiring process. Personally I think everyone should meet the qualifications. Can you critizice the previous writer's comments or mine without negative female stereotypes? No one has used sexual stereotypes againt you or is it that you don't have a good argument on the issues and need to resort to this lower way of trying to win the argument? I for one will keep pointing it out because this sexism - just like favoritism - should not be tolerated. Other people - not just women - should also be prepared and brave enough to point it out. Let's see who gets to the end of this post. Sound byte mentality often leads to reading only the first few lines. Thus the newspapers locally at least seem to be burying the fact in the next to last column on the 2nd page that a man tazed his 11 year old step-son, drank beer while in the seat of a car (in control of the vehicle and able to drive). Now just looking at those 2 things - setting aside the finding he took the moose against the law, and the threats - if someone who is just a plain Joe Citizen then we would want the tazer taken out of the guy's hand and the keys and car taken away. People would scream for protection of that child and protection of the public in case he decides in bleary beer wisdom to crank that car up. His being a trooper makes it stunning. Trooper Tazer and trooper car. Look only at those two. Five day suspension? Why was this on the back end of the Anchorage Daily News article and not up front? That is just as much uneven reporting if you know - and media knows this - as writing a misleading headline. That and the following are my personal opinion to all of this mess. Look at the issues and stop your sexist sniveling on a personal level. It should be fair and equal when it comes to Sarah, good or bad. No sexist smears, no hiding or concealing of facts for her detractors or her supporters. Be fair and truly equal. The same treatment for Frank, for Andrew Halcro, for Sarah Palin. Be fair, not political when it comes to protecting kids and the unsuspecting public. And that goes for hiring too. Whether anyone likes Sarah or not she is in the spotlight now and that puts us in the glow around her on us. How do you want Alaska to be seen by the rest of the U.S.? Making sexist comments or putting forth an insistance on a fair process?

Disparaging remarks?

I don't think so. Truthful remarks? Yes. Sometimes, the truth hurts. Love, Mat-Su Barbie P.S. Yes, college educated. Either way, still a LOT smarter than you :)

I don't care if she dances nekkid in the moonlight...

The woman got the goods in her FOIA, or aren't you aware of what a big deal it is to show that the Administration influenced the hiring process in a "classified" position? I talk about it at the blog. I don't care what motivated her to do the research...the fact that she found something is what matters.

Sarah and Andree

The comment above smells like it came from either Wasilla or Juneau. Apparently, at one time, Sarah liked having Andree in her court. The emails highlighted in the above blog certainly attest to an enthusiastic acceptance of Andree by Sarah. Sarah even signed one note: Love, SP. Perhaps Andree's sense of accountability worked for Sarah at one time and is now working against Sarah. Your comments speak loudly of demonizing Andree. I could care less about Andree's political aspirations, as long as she helps us bring Sarah down.

"I could care less about

"I could care less about Andree's political aspirations, as long as she helps us bring Sarah down." Bring her down? Why? Is it out of the visceral hatred that is so obvious? Just what is wrong with you people anyway? The woman made big oil refund to the people of Alaska and that is a good thing. She broke up the ring(s) of buddies in government and that again is a good thing. She has made the gov in Alaska accountable to the people and all you can think of she (Andree) helps 'YOU' bring her down? YOU and those like YOU are what is wrong in America today. YOU are truly pathetic. Talk about partisan bs.

So show us ALL the emails

Don't show us just the selected ones that prove one side or the other. Put them all on the web or in the blog so that people can make and INFORMED opinion. Be fair to Palin and be fair to your own position. Full Disclosure! And let us know how your verified that it was ALL the emails.

Skunks can Hide but they Can't Stop Being Skunks

Thanks for writing a thoughtful e-mail. I am not at all impressed with Ms. McLeod. When I have heard her speak she does not instill a feeling of confidence that she is completely above board. With that said it doesn't mean she is not absolutley correct about the antics of the Palin thugs. In fact Ms. McLeod appears to be spot on with regards to this particular issue. Lets not ignore the horrible and dishonest behaviour of Sara Palin and her blind loyalists. Palin's recent snotty statements about Ms. McLeod being a Conoco Phillips Employee was just a lie and her comment about the Falafel Lady is just mean. Her repeated attempts to vilify any and all critics is just getting so tired. She still seems to be stuck in some odd time warp where she reverts to acting like a high schooler whenever the pressure is on. In watching the Palin team hiding e-mails I remember my grandfathers comment on sneaky people who seem to be getting away with bad behaviour - Skunks can Hide but they Can't Stop Being Skunks, and they'll always have to live with their stink. The family and inner circle meetings must be getting pretty interesting.

Falafel?

Just what does falafel lady mean?

...About 10 years ago, maybe longer, Andree attempted to set up a  stand to sell falafel's but got into a fairly contentious fight with the Health Department. The story played out in the media and people then referred to her as the "falafel lady".

AH

Wait, do you hear that?

Right now, not a single member of the "inner circle" is not pushing some aspect of damage control. We've seen this game plan with Moneghan, Wooten, Halcro, Murkowski, Hickel, and anyone else who would challenge the administration. We will attack the messenger, and not answer the questions. Ah, it's a regular "Carol of the Bells" in the good gov's mansion right now. Maybe Christmas comes early...

Empty Mansion

The Gov's mansion is empty - no one lives there anymore. It is an occasional prop for a tea party.

Bells!!!!!!!!!!

Do not ask for whom the bell tolls Govenor........... It tolls for thee!!!!!!!!!!!! Neocon Todd

I agree with Sarah Palin

Thanks for working to instill public trust in all this Andree!

Talk about two-faced!

Wow. Palin is a piece of work.
