Who in the world is Vic Vickers?

With the announcement today by Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate Vic Vickers that he will dump another $250,000 into his campaign to unseat incumbent Ted Stevens, it's time for a closer look at the mysterious Vic Vickers.

The latest cash infusion into his campaign account brings the total amount of his personal contributions to one million dollars. This seems odd for a man that just moved to Alaska in January and has done very little to introduce himself to Alaskans with the exception of showing up out of nowhere and trying to beat the hell out of Alaska's 40 year serving Senator.

In a July 31, 2008 Anchorage Daily News interview Vickers stated "I think the choices are clear here. We've got a corrupt politician on one hand, and on the other hand, I think the people of Alaska know that I will fight for them."

You think that I know you'll fight for me?

Excuse me Mr. Vickers, but who are you?

Vic Vickers moved to Alaska from Florida in January. Vickers had been a Democrat his entire life but changed his party affiliation to Republican when he moved to Alaska.

Vickers campaign manager, Bob Rackleff, has been a speechwriter for former President Jimmy Carter and active behind the scenes at Democratic party conventions.

Rackleff is currently an environmentalist county commissioner from Tallahassee who the campaign pays to fly back to Florida so he can attend campaign functions.

According to a story in the Tallahassee Democrat, Rackleff has been friends with Vickers for years. They served on the legal team involved in a legal battle with the Colonial Pipeline Company and Texaco from 1989 to 1995.

Rackleff and Vickers prevented Colonial from building a pipeline from Bainbridge, Ga., to Lloyd, Fla. They also prevented Texaco from building a tank farm — basically a gasoline, aviation and diesel fuel distribution center with five large tanks — near Lloyd.

Oh yeah, Vickers seems exactly who we want fighting for us; a guy who opposes oil & gas development representing a state that is dependent on oil & gas development.

Rumors are abound about the true motives of Vickers presence in this race.

Pollster Ivan Moore pointed out last week on the Mike Porcaro show that showing up unknown and preceding to beat up a 40 year incumbent is not the way to get people to vote for you.

Usually, candidates tend to invest some air time introducing themselves to voters. However Vickers jump right in with guns blazing by holding an opening press conference in front of Ted Stevens campaign office and he shot his first campaign commercial in front of Ted Stevens Girdwood home.

Some have accused him of being a Democratic Party plant. Funneled money from national Democratic groups so he can attack Ted Stevens in the primary while the Democratic candidates are free to run positive campaigns without looking like they're are piling on Stevens.

I don't know if that is true but it certainty isn't beyond belief as Vickers has been incredibly transparent with his campaign.

Have you ever heard his say anything other than Ted Stevens is corrupt? And let's be honest, flying his campaign manager in from Florida for meetings and paying him $8,000 a month? Vickers is showing he has no desire to even try to appear Alaskan by hiring Alaskans.

Pollster Ivan Moore recently offered Vickers the best advice so far and it had nothing to do with politics: "Pirelli tires with a high quality tungsten carbide stud work best in Alaska winters. That's assuming you stick around."

On August 26, voters should help take back Alaska by sending Vic Vickers back to Florida.

Vic Vickers

You in Alaska do not know who you are dealing with. He is known in Florida and to those who know him as a "Financial Sociopath". He always leaves innocent lives and human wreckage in his wake. He himself got his money from corrpuption. Mary Repper tried to blowthe whistle on him in Tampa in 1986. T Vickers destoyed her. He sent his sychofant Lousis Wainsright in to romance and eventually try to marry Anne Hvide, an elderly rich widow to take her maritime company away from her. It worked. He maintained Wainwrigth as the President. His former law partner, Robert Perkins in 1984, had to start carrying a loaded ,38 to wrk and home because Vickers threatend to kill him and his family. William Rishoir, another of VCikers law partners, was repeatedly threatened. He now lives in Winter Park Florida. Jose Torres used to take campaing money to Vickers after he extorted it from his regulated finance companiwes in Tampa in the late 70's. There is more. You have a monster now living in Anchorage. His name is Vic Vickers. He is ruthless, mean, smart, and has absolutely no conscience whatsover. Is this what Alaskans want. There is much, much, much ., much more. See for yourself.

Vic Vickers

Who is this guy? Why is he burning up so much cash? Maybe his candidacy is a vanity thing-like publishing a vanity book -apparently he has written a couple of those and maybe they weren't fulfilling enough? He was saying nasty things about Begich on tape recently so if the Dems are paying him they better ask for a refund. Except for his Dem background, Vickers appears to be a Cuddy supporter. Isn't it interesting that Cuddy's ads don't said ONE bad thing about Stevens-don't even MENTION Stevens. Maybe because Vickers is doing the dirty work?

"Shall there be a Constitutional Convention"

Absolutely. The Qualifications of a member of the Legislature: A member of the legislature shall be a qualified voter who has been a resident of Alaska for at least three years and of the district from which elected for at least one year, immediately filing for office. A senator shall be least twenty-five years of age and a representative for twenty-one years of age. The govenor shall be at least thirty years of age and a qualified voter of the state. He shall have been a resident of Alaska for at least seven years immediately his filing for office, and shall have been a citizen of the United States for at least seven years....In the State constitution, I can find no requirements of some one to represent Alaska as a U.S. Senator or a member member of congress. The U.S. Constitution only requires some one to be a citizen of the U.S. for nine years. What is wrong here? Did I miss something in reading of the Alaska Constitution? Maybe Vickers is the mad rabbit that attacked Prz Carter.

I wish I was a Republican

I'd vote for him. I'll vote against any incumbent this year, because we've hit an all-time low and this is the first time in my life that I can't find a single incumbent who I believe has earned another chance at a term in office (except for most of our judges, who I believe do a good job overall). Sorry, Ted fans, that includes the king of pork. I really don't care what this guy's motivation is, because there's not a single incumbent who I think has honest, ethical motives.

Vickers to Carter

Vickers campaign manager was a speech writer for Jimmy Carter? Carter - the guy locked up Alaska. Nuff said.

Pretty poor choices

As an outsider looking in, your overall choices are pretty bad. I'll admit I don't know enough about Cuddy or the other lesser known names running on the GOP but you would think the RNC and the Alaska GOP could find someone decent to represent Alaska in the Senate, then throw their weight behind them. I know a lot of you Alaskans aren't as critical of Stevens as the rest of the country but even leaving VECO aside the "bringing the pork home" mentality of Stevens is detrimental to the conservative agenda nationwide. It seems no matter who wins, the GOP loses.

change of party

Isn't he a bit more honest than Republican Lindemeir (sp?) who lived in Washington but ran for Alaska governor? Speaking of "party of convenience"-- Bob Herron converted for the moment in Bethel to run in the Democratic primary for Mary Nelson's seat. He was the local Republican leader and local congressional office staff. If he wins (please, no) he'll join his brother-in-law in Juneau-- another all in the family network.

One of 3 things...

1. A self made man spending his hard earned cash = stupid. 2. A silver spoon spending daddy's hard earned cash = fool. 3. A stupid fool spending someone else's cash. I pick option 3 - the only question is who's cash - Begich or does it rise to the level of Soros and company. Whatever you think and whoever you support - don't forget to vote on Tuesday, Aug 26th.

"Take back Alaska"????

Hey Vic....does the term "Carpet Bagger" ring a bell?

IF...

If Vickers is indeed a Democratic plant to "beat up" on Stevens so that Begich doesn't have to, the next question is "Why?" Could it be that Begich doesn't want to go on the attack because he also has some skeletons in his closet? Are the democrats hoping to keep his finances out of the spotlight? Stevens is not the first Republican congressional delegate to experience a multi-pronged attack from the Democrats. This is beginning to look like dirty politics at its worst.

I Got Money Vote For Me!

Heck, I have been wondering who this yahoo is for sometime now. Now when I watch the olympics Mrs. V and I have the remote nearby so we can't mute his ugly ass everytime he speaks.

See you in 2 years, Vic

With a pedigree like his -- "a guy who opposes oil & gas development representing a state that is dependent on oil & gas development" -- Vic Vickers is a man ahead of his time. He should return in 2010 & run for governor.

An HONEST politician for once???

I don't buy into any of the wild conspiracy theories that Uncle Ted and his minions are trying to spread. Maybe this Vickers guy is simply spending a lot of his own money to actually stand up for something. Someone who has the _____'s to put his money where his mouth is. I know it sounds unbelievable, but maybe this is a guy who's running for political office for the RIGHT reasons for once... It will be interesting to see if an anti-corruption, reform candidate gets the votes out in the Great Land...

Right. Sure He is.

Most people who move half way across the country to help us "podunks" always have alturistic motives until they find out we're not at stupid and we look. Thanks for the post, Vic! There was some interesting blogging from people from Florida saying this guy had his own ethical problems in Florida when the ADN did a piece on him a few weeks back. You might want to go search for that article and read it.

ADN 7/31/08

He did make the news in the mid-1980's. Florida newspapers said he was under investigation for influence peddling. Vickers had helped Democrat Gerald Lewis get elected state comptroller in 1974, according to the St. Petersburg Times. The comptroller was the state's chief fiscal officer and bank regulator and Vickers was his top assistant.

Vickers said he wasn't found to have done anything wrong. Lewis was the one who was really being investigated, Vickers said -- and had tried to shift the attention to Vickers after attempting to "shake me down."

"He wanted me to buy swampland his wife owned," Vickers said.

WHY?

A question everyone should be asking vickers - Why did you change your party affiliation to Republican when you moved to Alaska 8 months ago? Good grief people, the man DOESN'T EVEN GET A PFD! How can we call him an Alaskan when he doesn't even receive the beloved PFD? I saw his sorry butt down at the weekend market this past Sunday... 4 people sitting around in a little white tent with a few blue signs taped up... how sad... how lame... how perfectly fitting of his campaign. Ps. ask him to pronounce Kuskokwim to see if he's a "true alaskan"... HA!

PFD=Alaskan???

I was born and raised in this state....I moved away for a while (1997-2007) and came back...I hold an Alaskan drivers license, I am registered to vote...I won't be eligable for a PFD until 2009...does this make me less Alaskan? I don't think so. Since when does PFD status determin if you are a resident of this state or a true Alaskan? Were you born here...did you live here and attend school here for 25 years? I did...I have always been Alaskan...even when I lived in the states. Now on the subject of Vickers, He changed his party affiliation and that should be what everyone is questioning...not to mention he has only been here since January and claims to know what is best for the people of this state...I think not. PS I learned how to pronounce Kuskokwim at Bayshore Elementary in the 1st grade. Now tell me I am not a true Alaskan.

Dump this fraud Vickers

Thanks AH, it's about time the magnifying glass gets turned on to this snake oil selling phony "Vickers". Please keep on this trail and expose him for the fraud that he certainly seems to be from his utterly rude and insulting "campaign". The people of Alaska absolutely need to know that he obviously will NOT "fight for them" --- the audacity of this blowhard puts even Eddie to shame! Oh yeah, "Vic" wants to take back Alaska -- where the hell does this carpetbagger outsider think he is going to take it? Back to the stone age? Or just "back" to his Florida bankrolling friends? This guy reminds me of a 6th grade schoolyard bully, "Gimme yer lunchmoney, you wimps [voters], er else!" So far all we have seen is all bluster and threat, with no substance or demonstration of how he is "for" Alaskans. This guy is more annoying than those "Head On - apply directly to forehead" commercials! Oh, and let's hear a little proof that all this "campaign" money is really his PERSONAL wealth, actually earned legitimately. Bragging about how he is planning to basically buy this election certainly should not win any points with the Alaskan voters.

If it worked for Palin....

Interesting how the only thing he has to talk about is 'anti-corruption'. I guess he took notes during Palin's campaign and has figured out that if you talk about 'anti-corruption' then you can't possibly be corrupt yourself. That, and Alaskans are a bunch of fools.

I trust my instincts more than anything....

and my instincts tell me this guy is a creep. I love highly-paid attorneys a la John Edwards who try to pass themselves off as for the "common man" all the while getting $400 haircuts. They make their money by screwing others trying to earn a living, but that is supposed to be ok. He would make a better Santa Claus than a politician representing Alaska, though I would not allow my children to sit on his lap.

Tammany Hall

Maybe I'm paranoid, but the whole multi-faceted attack on Sen Stevens smacks of Tammany Hall era politics with Chuck Schumer back in NY pulling all the strings to oust one of his arch rivals. The timing of the indictments a year after the searches, Chuckie boy's personnel running the Begich campaign and now this Vic Vickers character, a lifetime Democrat, all the sudden coming up with ooogles of cash from FL to run as a Republican. Me thinks something is rotten in NY!

Alaskans are unique but are Alaskans!

Just WHO does he think he is spouting off that he has come (some Savior) to take back Alaska! He never owned it, never developed it and certainly cannot claim it! What gall! His only agenda is to shout against Ted. Well I have news for you -- Ted Stevens is nothing compared to Ted Kennedy and his crimes they covered carefully and his major deception before, during and after Chappaquidick. The people of his state knew he was guilty but stood by him as their senator. Ted has been a moving target for 40 years and opportunists have been taking shots and getting desperate. Did they also hire VECO to help? Alaskans can be more proud of Ted despite current flack than Ted Kennedy's constituents but they loyally stood by him and kept him in office until our day! Our Ted has served all Alaskans constantly for decades. If we want anything done he has always jumped and produced it. We have always been independent with strong opinions but do not appreciate the Democrats importing a slick slippery tongued guy with a suth'un drawl to come stir the pot, and take pot shots at a fellow who has served all of Alaska for over 40 years! It smells fishy to me and not like tasty salmon, more like a rotten skunk I think I smell from here. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" is sage advice. We who have lived and loved Alaska for more than 50 years helped it grow! We do not need some hot headed transplant pretending to be a Republican now coming to deceive loads of new or transplanted voters. I guess he was hoping to do just that. Spread the word - he is bad news! The newcomer does not represent ME! He doesn't even understand anything yet except what he learned in research for his book. He has not lived through life in the old days to begin to understand Alaska, who we are or from where we have come in progress. We do not need his ideas and values to come fight corruption - he can go back "home" and find plenty of corruption in other states to fight. He is a poor excuse for a Republican - I am not voting for him for even dogcatcher or janitor of the jail.

I know that guy!

Didn't I see him holding a cardboard sign at the corner of the Glen and Bragaw stating something like "WILL WORK FOR FOOD"?

That was some other guy

This guy was at Dimond and Old Seward.

Vickers Supports Ted?

Seems to me Vickers is likely to benefit Ted most as he will further divide the repub vote. The man seems delusional to invest a mil in an obviously futile campaign.
