Why Walt Monegan got fired: Palin's abuse of power

Last Friday, Commissioner of Public Safety Walt Monegan went into a meeting with Governor Sarah Palin's acting chief of staff thinking he was going to be discussing security for the governor's picnic. He left the meeting without a job.

The abrupt firing of Walt Monegan was a shock not only to him but all of the men and women of the Department of Public Safety. The way Monegan was fired raises serious questions about the governor's true motives.

So why was Walt Monegan fired out of the blue? Why would Governor Palin send a surrogate to fire her Public Safety Commissioner and then not have a decent explanation for the public? And why would Monegan's replacement be telling people three days before Monegan got fired, that he was going to become the new Commissioner of Public Safety?

Walt Monegan got fired for all of the wrong reasons. Walt Monegan got fired because he had the audacity to tell Governor Palin no, when apparently nobody is allowed to say no to Governor Palin.

Monegan said no, he couldn't cut his budget because his State Troopers were already being stretched to the limit and public safety suffering. He said no, he couldn't cut his budget because fuel costs for planes, boats and patrol vehicles soaring, while crime in rural Alaska was putting more demands on the Troopers transportation system.

But more alarming than any budget battle, Monegan said no to firing a State Trooper who had divorced Governor Palin's sister because the guy was being maliciously hounded by Palin's family.

And not just that; Monegan's firing came after his Colonel had to reprimand the governor's office for meddling in department personnel affairs.

Monegan's budget battles

When Walt Monegan was appointed, he realized the deep problems at DPS including low morale, understaffed detachments and the lack of a funding commitment to a long term vision.

He also recognized, that along with the strategic plan his department developed and introduced just months ago, there needed to be a commitment of resources to follow through on the public safety needs for Alaskans.

"We want out employees to know that help is on the way; that we are planning to grow our staff to provide both the needed services for this vast state, and the appropriate training necessary to do it", Monegan wrote in his 2008-17 Strategic Plan.

But the Palin administration wanted Monegan to go in another direction. They wanted him to cut corners on a budget that had already fallen behind over the last decade. Under Former Governor Murkwoski there was significant investment made to try and catch up with growing costs but Palin's budgets have again started to starve the agency.

To make matters worse, the change to the state's retirement benefit program adopted by the legislature in 2004 has had a negative effect on the departments ability to recruit new Troopers.

Meanwhile, since Governor Palin appointed Walt Monegan in 2007, she has spent less than one hour in face to face discussions with him about the critical public safety issues in Alaska.

And her fy09 budget for public safety clearly shows the results of her lack of understanding about the challenges that DPS faces.

According to the Legislative Finance Agency, the public safety budget in fy09 was cut by .06% from what the governor originally proposed while the governor's own budget increased 22.6% over what she originally proposed.

The problem for Palin was that Monegan was vocal about his concerns about the growing problems in rural Alaska due to alcohol and drug abuse and recognized that the state needed to invest more in protecting the public.

A few months ago, Monegan warned that Troopers were stretched so thin with no funding support coming from the administration that they might not be able to respond to all calls and even suggested the department prepare a statement for when those situations occurred

Monegan and his department were getting too far out in front of Palin, acting in ways that were independent and contrary to the governor's wishes. Palin needed to replace Monegan with someone who would be seen but not heard while doing the governor's bidding.

That's why Palin replaced Monegan with Chuck Kopp from Kenai, an  old Palin family acquaintance who is more likely to follow the governor's line and never say no.

Monegan, ever the good cop, even advocated for a safer Alaska after he was relieved of his duties. In an interview with KTUU on Sunday, two days after he was unceremoniously fired by one of Palin's surrogates, he stated that he informed the administration of a few things that should not be ignored, including the current economic situation in Alaska's rural communities, where he believes poor fishing returns could potentially cause social unrest.

"Thefts increase. Domestic violence increases. When you apply a lot of stress on a situation, money and fuel oil are an absolute hope at some point.  And unless we band together as a government to address it head on it could be very bad," Monegan said.

Walt Monegan was fired because he fought too hard. Governor Palin fired Monegan because she understood too little and wanted a puppet as commissioner.

But there was another reason that contributed to Monegan's ouster; a more alarming reason.

Trooper Mike Wooten: Being hunted by the governor

In the fall of 2004, Trooper Mike Wooten had decided the differences between he and his wife Molly of four years had grown to the point of being irreconcilable. His wife just happened to be the younger sister of Sarah Palin.

The beginning of the divorce proceedings set off a chain of bizarre and chilling events that has continued through today. During that time it has resulted in the governor and her family trying to ruin the career of an eight year Alaska State Trooper that has served his state on the SERT Team, Motor Unit and DUI Team.

Beginning in spring of 2005 and for the next ten months, over 25 formal complaints were filed by Palin and Heath family members against Trooper Mike Wooten. From drinking while driving his patrol car to making threats to shooting a moose without a permit.

According to Trooper records, Sarah Palin said that in January and February of 2005, Wooten was drinking while driving. After investigating the complaint, the investigator found that Palin never actually saw what she reported.

In another complaint, Sarah's father said that Wooten made threatening remarks. Again, the investigator found there was no probable way that it could have happened.

In all cases except one, the charges were ruled unfounded after an internal investigation. And the one charge that was valid, Wooten immediately admitted to.

In 2003, Wooten, his wife and a friend were moose hunting. Upon spotting a moose, Wooten instructed his wife to shoot the moose since she had the permit, she refused so Wooten did.

After carting the moose back to town, Sarah's father actually butchered it in his garage, and Wooten shared the meat with both Sarah and Todd Palin as well as her parents. Two years later, during the divorce battle, the family filed a complaint alleging that Wooten had taken that moose illegally. At least they waited until they finished the meat to file the complaint against Wooten.

But it didn't stop there. Threatening phone calls, private detectives that were hired to follow Wooten, notes left on windshields, Todd Palin taking pictures then submitting them to Wooten's supervisor, all designed to intimidate Wooten into backing off from demanding equal child custody rights.

But every time they filed a spurious complaint, the Troopers would bring in an Administrative Investigator who after seeing more than two dozen of these ridiculous and time consuming complaints stated that in all his years he had never seen such a shotgun pattern against one officer.

Meanwhile in court, Wooten prevailed at every turn as Judge Suddock quickly realized there was a concerted effort to damage Wooten. Finally the judge warned that if any of their actions caused Wooten to lose his job or pay in anyway, Molly and her family would be held liable.

After the divorce was final in late 2005 things settled down, until last fall.

At the request of the court, Wooten and his ex-wife were instructed to return to re-visit the custody schedule. Once the paper work started in April of 2008, the complaints and the intimidation started all over again.

But now Wooten wasn't dealing with just Sarah Palin, he was dealing with Governor Sarah Palin.

On April 23, 2008 in written testimony to the court, Palin denied ever making claims against Wooten, when in fact she had emailed a State Trooper Colonel in April of 2005 accusing Wooten of driving drunk.

Twice in the last few months complaints were filed by the governor's office accusing Wooten of improperly using his patrol car. Both times he was visiting his kids at school and both times he had permission from his sargent. The last complaint came in May after Todd Palin saw Wooten pulling out of the school parking lot and six days later the complaint landed on Wooten's supervisor's desk.

During the legislative session this past spring, Palin reportedly told Commissioner Monegan to fire Wooten because he was giving Troopers a bad name. However Monegan said he would do no such thing.

A short time afterwards, it was discovered that confidential material in Wooten's Administrative Investigation file had been released to his ex-wife and her attorney. This drew outrage from the Public Safety Union as well as the Commissioner. AI files are strictly confidential and can only be released with the written signature of the Trooper, but yet no one could explain how the detailed confidential information was released.

Reportedly, both Commissioner Monegan and Colonel Audie Halloway warned that if they found out the file was leaked by the governor's office, they would pursue charges.

Unfortunately, Commissioner Walt Monegan has been fired and word on the street is Colonel Audie Halloway's days are numbered as the new commissioner brings in those who won't object when the governor uses the Troopers as her own private security force.

The most tragic part of this whole story is Trooper Mike Wooten. For the last four years his children have endured inexcusable stress at the hands of the governor and her family. The same governor who has been on television telling Alaskans how important it is to love your kids and spend time with them. Truth be told, Governor Palin should watch her own television commercial.

For eight years, Trooper Mike Wooten has served the people of the State of Alaska by putting his life on the line to protect them from harm. Today the question is; who will protect Wooten from the blatant abuse of power now that the governor has free hands.

Commissioner Walt Monegan was fired because he fought for his employees, he fought for a safer Alaska and he didn't care if he had to fight Governor Palin to do it.

In the mean time, God help Trooper Mike Wooten.

McCain/Palin

Thank you for posting this story. I'm in Minnesota and have been searching some time now for the full story of Palin abusing her authority. She should be censured as govenor as she and her DUDE hubby Todd, seem to be nothing more than self serving. I have wondered if Todd Palin is being paid with tax payers money as being her personal advisor. You do not believe he gives his time and advise for free! Has Gov. Palin created a new position for him and abuses the Alaskin tax payer's monies? Nepotism is always a bad practice and generally not allowed! Now on Sen. McCain, his latest brainstorming on his own mortgage bail out. Does he really believe that by the time either candidate actually gets into office, that there will be any bail out money left to deal out? I think Paulson and his cronies will see to it that all the funds are spent! They are not going to leave 300 billion for the next presidential cabinet to spend. Really they could have paid off every mortgage in America and we the main street people would boost the economy back with spending if our moneies were freed up instead of bailing out corporate greed. And furthermore, it has taking this many months for McCain to even bring himself to say the "middleclass" word while campaigning. He does not care about American jobs and the working families. We need American jobs brought back to America and fewer Chinese imports. Tax cuts for large business to create jobs is a joke. They do not create American jobs, they create cheap labor in third world countries and pocket huge profits. McCain is just another big business self serving type of politician hoping for power and a guaranteed future as presidents receive after their terms. I bet IF he were elected, he would show his allegience more to his friend Lieberman and all but remember Palin in his cabinet. We would see a whole new set of cabinet cronies but most likey the same Bush policies. He is no Maverick. We need to ask ourselves, can we afford no timelines in a war that we were wrong on, in the first place and we carry all our eggs in one basket these days. We leave ourselves no military personnel and money available to be prepared for anywhere else in the world that we may need to protect muchless our homeland. Sorry to say that the middle east has been fighting one another for centuries and we are not going to change that, ever! Prior to the Bush Era, our National Guards were created for Homeland Security, not for nationalized full time military. Is no one looking at how this group of everday Americans have been abused? McCain does not stand for veterans as he brags about, he has received a D from the veterans report card. He has missed six out of nine votes for Bills and then tries to take credit himself when a good Bill was passed. Hes a FAKE and so is PALIN!! People have turned off their reality TV shows and have been becoming educated on the economy and politics and I hope we see Palin sent back to Alaska with her wickedness and tail between her legs and McCain, well just out of the picture. He is just a ranting angry old man who somehow has this really big ego and he should retire and enjoy the family money his wife has. He's a man so stuck in the past that the only change he will encounter is when his faculties quit functioning and "depends" will be his daily change! The free world is crashing along side of us and it may never be as we have known, so change is what we will get but who is really better to lead us into that change? Not a ranting and raving old man.

GREAT ARTICLE!

Thanks for posting this. Great information!

Another side to Monegan???

Funny, an article in the San Francisco Chronicle date 9-15-08 revealed that Walt Monegan's ex-wife, who is a doctor in California, left AK in 1994 and filed a restraining order against Monegan due to DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (waving a gun in her face, saying he would throw her body in an Alaskan river, dislocating her shoulder, etc.). READ IT FOR YOURSELF!!!!! Hmmmm, yah, let's protect the likes of Wooten and Monegan!!!

palin

you know and i know wikipedia can be found lacking...however Andrew Halcro (born September 20, 1964) is an American politician from Anchorage, Alaska. Formerly a Republican member of the Alaska Legislature, he ran for Governor of Alaska as an Independent candidate in the 2006 election, running third with 9.46% of the vote. Halcro was born in San Francisco, Please help improve this section by adding citations to reliable sources. Unverifiable material may be challenged and removed. (August 2008) In 2000, he won the Republican primary by a two-to-one margin and was unopposed in the general election. During his term in office, he earned a reputation as a maverick who sometimes put his foot in his mouth, as when his comments on what he saw as Bush Alaska's dependency on government funding earned him criticism from across the political spectrum.  i'm not sayin...i'm just saying CONSIDER THE SOURCE of Palin's critique!

...yes...please do. "On another occasion, he publicly criticized other Republican legislators for taking too many junkets at taxpayer expense, which resulted in the loss of his position as chair of the House Transportation Committee." AH

Trooper Wooten

THE ONLY COMPLAINT THAT HAS EVER MADE AGAINST MR. WOOTEN CAME FROM THE PALIN FAMILY, IN HIS EIGHT YEARS OF SERVICE, NOT ONE COMPLAINT FROM ANYONE ELSE HAS EVER BEEN LODGED. GET IT ????????????

Palin - Why I am 1 of the many women against Palin

I am a 47 year old white female professional, who is educated, catholic, and a feminist, who voted for Hilary Clinton for President in the primaries, and I will not be voting for the McCain/Palin ticket in November. Despite what McCain, Palin, and the GOP may believe, as well as what some in the media may say, I did not vote for Senator Clinton because she has a vagina, and I won't vote for Palin because she has a vagina. McCain insults me and all women and men in this country by selecting Palin as a running mate, primarily for her gender, in an effort to garner the votes of women and others who had supported Senator Clinton. Palin shares absolutely nothing with Senator Clinton, other than her gender. Palin has demonstrated that she does not believe in the true separation of church and state, and as her past well publicized actions and statements make clear, she is all for imposing her religious and social views on others. Palin is devoid of any knowledge, experience, or even curiosity in any relevant subject or issue, including the environment, foreign policy, the national economy, the global economy, the military, world history, politics (national and international), world cultures, health care, medicare, social security, the deficit, and many other critical topics, all of which, in my book, are a requirement to be on a presidential ticket...only a heart beat away. Perhaps even more disturbing is that Palin has shown virtually no interest in any of these issues, or any topic relevant to this country, and she has no apparent interest to study or learn about these issues or subjects. Shockingly, Palin is either not aware or frankly doesn't care about her lack of knowledge on these issues, and the negative and damaging impact her knowledge deficits will have on this nation if she is the VP, or worse, the president. Palin's glib cocky answers and demeanor punctuated by her occasional bizarre wink in response to Charlie Gibson's questions in her first interview, were so disappointing and frightening. No man or woman who ever ran for national office, ever acted so inappropriately in any debate, interview or speech. Not only was Palin not the slightest bit embarrassed by her woeful shortcomings or inability to answer Gibson's questions, she demonstrated repeatedly that she does not even posses the intellectual capacity to grasp or appreciate her ignorance on these subjects. Instead, Palin naively assumes that she can fool the American people into believing that she is competent by repeating memorized talking points fed to her by her advisers in the GOP. Perhaps Palin's smug approach is based on her belief that it is God's will and plan that she be the vice president of this country. The only relevant experience Palin seems to have, albeit very limited, is in oil. However, Palin is also lacking in this subject area as well, especially with respect to this nation and the world economy. As far as her local "experience" in oil gained from her role, for less than two years, as the Governor of Alaska, Palin either flat out lied or simply does not know, even generally, how much oil Alaska produces annually. In several recent statements, Palin has completely inflated the amount of oil Alaska produces for our country. Moreover, Palin's complete ignorance of the energy crisis, and most importantly, how our reliance on oil directly impacts our economy, the global economy, and our foreign policy, has been demonstrated these past few weeks by her naive and simplistic answer to these issues as "drill, drill, drill." Palin also seems to lack the critical intellectual capacity, skills, and back bone to evaluate the relevant facts, positions, and competing interests that she will have to sift through to arrive at a thoughtful opinion, stance or resolution to any issue that she is asked to weigh in on as a VP, or even as a president, should the unthinkable happen. Ignorance and arrogance scare me, and so far that is all I have seen from Palin. The claims of sexism by Palin, McCain, and the Republican party are truly unfortunate for women, and must be recognized as the disingenuous, transparent favored defense tactic that it is, from a party that has always been anti-women - anti-feminist. Palin hurts women every time she uses claims of sexism or does not object to her adviser's and the Republican party's tired use of claims of sexism to shield her from inquiries into her background, as a defense to claims of her inexperience, or anytime someone poses a tough questions or takes Palin to task for an answer, a position, or her past actions. Just as crying wolf repeatedly will be ignored when the wolf finally shows up, always claiming sexism will undoubtedly result in another woman's valid claim of sexism being disregarded. Quite frankly, some comments made about Palin by others, including women were sexist, but neither Obama, Biden, their advisers or any key person on their campaign has made them or have been credibly attributed to them. Funny thing though, McCain and his brethren in the Republican party have over the years made the most deplorable sexist comments to and about women, especially Senator Clinton. Even McCain earlier this year has called Senator Clinton, among other things, a bitch and that he needs to "get rid of that bitch." Dobson (Focus on the Family), Buchanan, and Senator Spector, to name a few, have made sexist comments about women in general, and I get sick and tired of people like them blaming women and feminism for every social problem, because they (women) chose to work outside the home, and failed to stay at home breeding, taking care of the kids, cooking and cleaning, and basically fulfilling their alleged "God given role" to remain subservient to all men at home in their place. Sure, we live in a patriarchal society, and women, such as myself, or Palin and Senator Clinton, often face sexism and misogyny. Instead of hiding behind comments interpreted as sexist, Palin ought to take a note from Clinton's play book, and get out there, answer questions, debate, argue, discuss the issues. If Palin would only bone up on the issues, she would not have to use her gender to hide from questions and inquiries. Despite what the media or pundits in the Republican party may say, I have a lot in common with Senators Obama and Biden. Although both are male, and one is bi-racial and the other white, I agree with the vast majority of their policies, and trust and know that they have the interest, the ability, intellect, skills, and experience to lead this country and solve some of our nations biggest problems in the future. In stark contrast, McCain does not support my issues or share my concerns, and the only thing in common between Palin and myself is that we both have a vagina. For these reasons, and oh so many more, I will not be voting Republican in November. Nor will I ever be voting for a party that wants to control my reproductive rights or my uterus, and whom support policies or legislation that are anti-women, anti-family, anti-environment, anti-peace, and against everything that is important to me, my life, my family, this nation, and the world. So, I will absolutely without a doubt just say NO WAY NO HOW McCain and Palin! Senators Obama and Biden have my vote - 100% - no hesitation. VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN FOR 2008! Christa F. Phiadelphia, PA (9/16/08)

WOW! Excellent letter

WOW! Excellent letter Christa F. I think you have covered all the points and hope that more women have their eyes as wide open as you do. It really has been frustrating me lately when I speak to family and friends and they seem so unaware of the issues. So many of them seem to be one issue voters who neglect to look at the big picture and to understand how negatively the McCain Palin ticket will impact not only women but young families, students and the aged.

Let's do Examine The Dysfunctionality of Palin's

I'm so glad the details here! And the GOP ticket hasn’t stricken with censorship yet, like we’re witnessing unfold before our eyes all over the internet about Sarah’s most damning personal information dissolves before our eyes. Troogergate, this is a 2 pronged issue where most people focus on the wrong prong. First, the investigations of Wooten proved he was not guilty of what Sarah and her family were trying to achieve. IF you didn't get that already, it's a custody battle and they want to cut Wooten off of payroll so he can't afford an attorney to fight the Almighty and Powerful Palin family. If this continues to reopen as a re-re-re-re (21 more re's) investigate and they repeatedly find Wooten is STILL not guilty of what Palin's claims are, then Wooten should sue for slander, and harassment and dethrone this Pitbull with Lipstick. Just because you're a police doesn't mean you're exempt from being a victim, as civilians are. The Second prong, this is just another distraction Sarah is masterful at and notorious for. I live in Juneau and HEAR and SEE what she does. i.e. false info about pregnancy...I have pix of her 2 weeks prior to announcement of "Palin's delivery"...strange, it never said, "Sarah Palin's delivery" just "Palin's delivery" in the announcement. Not committing to WHICH Palin delivered is distraction and slicker than OIL; she's smaller and flat stomach in the pix than she is now and only a couple blocks from my husbands work. Now let's really get into the crux of the case instead of the distraction about Wooten's deeds: Sarah was ordered by Judge Shuddock not to disparage Wooten or this would be emotional child abuse, and her sister Molly could lose her children (Sarah doesn't care about Molly or her children apparently...she's a Pitbull remember, she's got lockjaw and won't let-up without something firing her), but not only did she disregard the law and the judge, and her sister, and the innocent children from this marriage, it points to Sarah that she gave out information to her aide and her husband that was confidential information, she had special privileges and never took it serious, (disparaging and maiming our government) and she sunk her teeth into this disregarding her Ethics committee experience (oh wait, she QUIT that too when she couldn't get her way). Her breaking the judges orders is WHY this is an active investigation for those who follow the distraction path. Ignorant people are focused on examining whether Wooten is guilty, or not, THAT's NOT the issue, it's whether the Pitbull sunk her teeth into Wooten by indiscriminately passing information-and confidential information; and issues of her launching attacks on Wooten that had already been investigated and resolved; and then pressuring an officer of the law to get him to fire Wooten; and when he did not - she yanked him from the force. These are the issue the State GOVERNMENT is examining and whether these action were abusive in nature and unethical practice within government. She did violate in her government and civilian capacity, so did Todd, and so did her aides, and so did extended family. The father of Sarah, should have taken charge, but he did not. Sarah, if she felt threatened in any way, she should have made a report and asked for police escorts and neighborhood protection, but this wasn't about HER, she stuck her nose in her sisters business, and I blame this sister too. There is something within this family, they are Piranha. Prudent people don't let their children down like they're doing (live or unborn). Then if Wooten suffered days lost for killing a moose that he and his wife would Have bagged anyways (using wife's tag...it'd be a REAL pouching incident had they shot it WITHOUT a tag what so ever), then all parties involved in field dressing and consuming this animal should be charged for their knowingly and actively participating in processing and consuming the animal because those actions take more effort (work and hiding) than it is to pull a trigger and tag. Too, there should be charges for not contacting authorities at the time they perceived this was a hunting violation, instead, they got right in there, rolled up there sleeves and spent how many hours skinning, gutting, butchering, wrapping, freezing and cooking the meat. I've done deer (I'm a female too) and elk and there was 4 of us and it took all day long. A moose is larger. They did the crime, they TOO, should do the effing time, if that's what you want to focus on, then by all means, LET'S DO! I worked for a legislature, worked in a court house, worked for 3 commissioners and learned a tiny about law and how cops/Sherriff's are corrupt, but so are civilians. I hope this investigation can go forward without her interference and it's obviously being slowed with people that have their hands and minds in BP oil. CNN owes Wooten an apology for zooming in on a tazer gun and proclaiming, "Wooten admitted to shooting his son with a tazer." What a tease and filthy lie! CNN forgot to edit the part where Wooten said he just came from a training course on tazing, he did NOT use a taze gun; rather he used a training TOOL, there was NO tazing cartridges, no probes, he explained that his son asked him to do this (I know the story in detail and CNN omitted it, that the son had a friend in the house and he wanted to prove to the friend that he was "not a mama's boy") and that Wooten only used "CLIPS of a training TOOL"...NOT a taze gun...he'd JUST COME FROM a training on the subject and had a TRAINING TOOL, what part of that did you NOT get? CNN is evil for doing that to him and his children, they brushed him in a light just the way Sarah does. People are so stupid sometimes, they need to learn to listen. WE should be pi**ed at CNN for using this situation, this man, his children (as Sarah does)to further their political agenda of siding with a abusive woman. Sarah abuses and neglects her OWN children, so she distracts by getting YOU to focus on other people, instead of herself. Her daughter is pregnant with a second child, she was a minor, where was statutory rape? Sarah neglected her daughter and then her unborn Trig; she failed to seek medical attention for her premature baby after her water broke? That's not a hero, that's a cover-up, or it's significant of child neglect and abuse, she knowingly deprived a Down's Syndrome fetus of oxygen? She was in active labor from 4 am until 10:30 PM (already 18.5 hrs labor, if you believe THAT! Those hours are for a first time child bearing female/total labor was 26.5 hrs on a premature 6# baby...I don't think so! I've done nursing. She had 4 prior children and labor shortens, not lengthens!); she COULD HAVE seeked medical attention in Texas (while there), she could have seeked medical attention in Seattle(when she landed), she could have seeked medical attention in Anchorage (when she landed), but NO! She drove yet another 1 hr to a small community hospital? Eye roll. She now claims she wanted to be on Alaskan soil? So what was wrong with as soon as she arrived in Anchorage, why drive to Wasilla? Anchorage is the hub, Wasilla has a population of 8,000. She deprived her child of medical attention and possible oxygen. This could have caused a brain bleed and disability from the action. I don't EVEN want to hear about how she's anti-abortion, when she neglects her baby during active labor and then again by leaving him for TWO weeks as a premature baby (that did NOT stay in a NICU by the way), with her pregnant teenager. She came off the campaign trail, off the airplane and raced to grab hands to shake and wave at stranger, instead of grab her very own baby? She didn't want to even HOLD it? Amazing! That was the most revealing moment, as I watched the local news on her arrival. This is typical Sarah and people in Alaska DO talk about her and her behavior and her fishy Pitbull politics, the media is enamored and builds her to celebrity status. We lost our democracy 8 years ago and we need to get it back. This woman's actions, ideology, or values will not change that. I blame her parents for taking her to Pentecostal church and learning about abortion at a vulnerable age...she said it herself. Her ideology infiltrates everything, so get out of her way if you don't adopt it. Look at the facts and research before you leap and side with the wrong path. I hope she gets more than a slap on the wrist, but knowing Alaska politics as I do, Honestly, it's not going to happen, especially when she's got 50 people recently fighting off "smears"...when it's truth and reality and she's engaging an expensive campaign to cover and attack the truth that rises to the surface. The investigation alone has committed nearly $100,000. and $145 an hr to the attorney. McCain has come to assist her with this too, and he's guilty of taking money from the Country Georgia from a lobbyist (Schenemann) and now this lobbyist is in hiding, so go figure. These ticket is working for oil and more war. God bless our country and our troops. War and economy do go together. Connect the dots people! Connect the dots. http://www.andrewhalcro.com/comment/reply/791/6604 Well, then you didn't listen to the rest of the story, Monegan was told by Sarah that he was supposed to be promoted 3 days later, instead he was fired. She didn't have the noobs to do it, she sent an aide. The investigation will demonstrate what happened in those 3 days, it wasn't internal budget either. LOL. Wait and see. It does matter if his "feeling" are right, or wrong; it was his 'feelings' and the record of pressuring him to re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-open investigations on a case that had already been resolved, that mattered. (21-24 calls/emails from her). Calling people names is immature, this isn't a partisan situation, it's an investigation that she actually wrote herself. She has input on this, she requested an Ethics investigation, and folks had she not done that, she'd find a hammer fall on her hard for not following Ethics protocol. Problem is, she was willing after she wrote requesting the investigation, but she flip-flopped and will not cooperate as she and her aide claimed they would, it's WHY they got subpoenaed and then why her hubby Todd Palin got one as well, because he's involved in the mix too. Let’s talk Todd, is he a wuss, or what? Did he suffer any damage from Wooten personally? Did Wooten threaten Todd’s children, or threats of any kind? No. He is too guilty of sticking his nose where it should not be, in Molly's business. The motivation appears that he’s assisting his wife. Todd doesn’t make enough money, so Sarah works and the two of them want more power. This is a distraction and we’re peering into a situation that grew a strange family feud, a very dysfunctional family in that petri dish! You have to ask why Todd would involve himself with his former brother-in-law and I suspect there’s information there that we don’t even know yet, along with what happened 3 days prior to Wooten’s discharge. But then again, Alaska is KNOWN for dysfunctional, drinking, driving 4 wheelers and snow mobiles and whoopin it up people. Todd’s name is appropriate, not a "gentleman" and taking control of his own family and daughter, rather appropriately called a "dude."

Let's DO Examine closer & here's issues we should focus on

@Ron Jansen Illinois State

@Ron Jansen Illinois State Trooper "I would have fired him...Wooten sounds like a bad apple....I know Wooten's type. We have plenty of them in my department. They are the type that get into law enforcement because they have an intimidating demeanor and it makes them feel macho..." So you would have fired him because he "sounds" like a bad apple or because you "know" this "certain type"? Blithely ignoring all the facts of the case, going with your own prejudice and using your dislike for the "good ol' boy system" as a holy-than-thou excuse. I'm glad I don't work for you.

VP Sarah Palin

I have bookmarked your blog for any information about Palin. Thank you for your courage in speaking out about an obvious abuse of power. Please, please, please, keep writing the facts. I don't like dirty politics of any kind but we must know the truth about all of our potential leaders. So many seem to be dazzled by Sarah's charismatic personality and it is CRITICAL that all of America see her different sides. We'll keep reading your blog and spreading the word. Good luck to you and thanks again for speaking out.

how do you know these are

how do you know these are facts? show some proof it sounds like to me the writer(which is showing an obvious abuse of power of the press) and you are just democrats showing support for obama and just saying stuff you would never know about and who knows maybe he made it up out of spite for that family because of his bitter divorce maybe he is the bad guy i cant say for sure I DONT HAVE ANY PROOF.why" good luck "to him because he obviously supports your democrat vote

If he was a bad guy he would

If he was a bad guy he would have dogged the Palin family out in his TV interview. He is not perfect but his job should not be threatned because of issues with a bad marriage. That is between him and his X wife not sister and brother in law.

Straight from the Alaska Constitution

Section 3.24 - Supervision. Each principal department shall be under the supervision of the governor. Section 3.25 - Department Heads. The head of each principal department shall be a single executive unless otherwise provided by law. He shall be appointed by the governor, subject to confirmation by a majority of the members of the legislature in joint session, and shall serve at the pleasure of the governor, except as otherwise provided in this article with respect to the secretary of state. The heads of all principal departments shall be citizens of the United States. ACCORDING TO THE SUPREME LAW OF ALASKA, THE GOVERNOR OF ALSAKA IS THE BOSS. HER DEPARTMENT HEADS SERVE AT HER PLEASURE. THAT MEANS IF SHE APPOINTS, SHE CAN FIRE. SO, WHERE'S THE ABUSE OF POWER?

..The potential abuse of power comes from the allegation that she fired her commissioner for refusing to fire another employee, which would have violated that employees personnel rights.

You can fire a commissioner...you just can't fire a commissioner for refusing to break the law or violate someone's rights.

Thank You!

Andrew, I can't thank you enough for the article! I have been a resident of Anchorage for the past 25 years. I completely support you on your view of this situation and I'm still pinching myself, thinking I must be dreaming! Not all we alaskans are Palinesta's, I would love to go to that rally tomorrow, but would almost fear for my life. I may still get brave, but I'll be hiding in the bushes.... My sister suggests a video.. Take care and you are the bomb!

Palin vs. good-ol' boys club?

What are the chances that Mike Wooten and Walt Monegan were buddy-buddies and Walt was covering up Mike's repeated infractions? He possibly felt that this chick doesn't know her place in man's world and she just needs to chill. We'll see when the results of investigation will come out.

Abuse of Power

Oh, my, it sounds as if these people have worked here in Georgia. It reminds me of my old job and the way things were handled. I am sure the people here will like her and her family a lot; because, the abuse of power and pushiness in women is favored. Anyway, they have their religion to make it all good. Experience and education will not be considered at all, so people well believe they were doing what was right. What a pity. And these people will be leading our country??

Walt Monegan ADMITTED

...in a phone interview with CNN, that at no time did Palin ever once either ask nor order him to fire the trooper in question. He just had a "feeling" she wanted that done. WHAT B.S. YOU PRO-SADDAMIST LIBERALS CLING TO...feelings over facts, as per usual!

3 days prior doesn't count? LOL

Well, then you didn't listen to the rest of the story, Monegan was told by Sarah that he was supposed to be promoted 3 days later, instead he was fired. Is he a wuss? Did he suffer anything from Wooten, threats of any kind? No. He is too guilty of sticking his nose where it should not be, in Molly's business. Strange family feud. This is a very dysfunctional family. But then again, Alaska is KNOWN for dysfunctionality, drinking, driving 4 wheelers and snow mobiles and whoopin it up. His name is appropriate, not a "gentleman," rather a "dude."

Think about it...

People get fired everyday because they disagreed with their boss. It is at times unfortunate but you take that chance when you decide not to be a 'yes' person. In a right to work state if it is not a firing due to a disability, etc. you just have to move on. If you were the boss would you want to keep someone on your team who didn't go along with your game plan? You may say 'yes' and if that is so you are with the maybe 3 out of every 100 of us who think that way. The reality is that bosses ask your opinion but what they really want is you to be a robot and repeat back to them what they want to hear and then when it goes 'south' they fire you anyway because you agreed. Just move on - you will be fired today or tomorrow anyway.

And in this case...the BOSS

And in this case...the BOSS was fired for refusing to fire an employee... Just something to think about.

how do you know this? was it

how do you know this? was it because another democrat said so or do you have proof? is this all they really have on her she gets my vote

I'm sure there is two sides

I'm sure there is two sides to every story. As we ALL know, when people are getting divorced things can get really ugly. I doubt Wooten was an angel and his wife probably wasn't either. Family members are most likely victiims of over exaggeration from both sides. If Sarah Palin misued her authority, that's totally different. What goes on within the family should not be grounds for abuse of her position.

Interesting take, but is it

Interesting take, but is it not the responsibility of appointees of the governor to enact their policies or quit? The appointee refused to make adjustments in his budget, and did not resign. As for the trooper, he did break the law on the moose meal, and at least the numerous allegations were giving the department a bad public perception. Your writeup is a little too one-sided to convince a thinking person.

Wooten

Obviously, this part was missed: "The record clearly indicates a serious and concentrated pattern of unacceptable and at times, illegal activity occurring over a lengthy period, which establishes a course of conduct totally at odds with the ethics of our profession," Col. Julia Grimes, then head of Alaska State Troopers, wrote in March 1, 2006, letter suspending Wooten for 10 days. Troopers eventually investigated 13 issues and found four in which Wooten violated policy or broke the law or both: • Wooten used a Taser on his stepson. • He illegally shot a moose. • He drank beer in his patrol car on one occasion. • He told others his father-in-law would "eat a f'ing lead bullet" if he helped his daughter get an attorney for the divorce. Beyond the investigation sparked by the family, trooper commanders saw cause to discipline or give written instructions to correct Wooten seven times since he joined the force, according to Grimes' letter to Wooten. Those incidents included: a reprimand in January 2004 for negligent damage to a state vehicle; a January 2005 instruction after being accused of speeding, unsafe lane changes, following too closely and not using turn signals in his state vehicle; a June 2005 instruction regarding personal cell phone calls; an October 2005 suspension from work after getting a speeding ticket; and a November 2005 memo "to clarify duty hours, tardiness and personal business during duty time."

Wooten

Where did all these complaints come from? Was it the family of Wootens ex-wife? Did they really share the ill-gotten moose? If so I would say that Palin would need to let the system work and not use her office to make Wooten pay! The recored phone conversations are very telling. Let's get a good look at this issue. This is at the very core of S Palin's experience. This rings of the poor guy who discovered Cindy McCain was stealing dope. McCain used his Keating 5 lawyer to ruin the guys rep and denied she was stealing drugs. They denied it and denied it until the truth came out. Then she wanted to be a victim. They just might be two of a kind. Perhaps they should go back to Alaska and rule there. Since when is teenage pregnancy a Christian Conservative Value?! This is the kind of morality and conservatism the rest of American can do without.

In reading Wooten's

In reading Wooten's testimony he states that hunting by proxy is common in Gov. Palin's family and her tags were filled by her father for both moose and caribou. I assume this is probably a fairly common practice in Alaska, but is it legal? Does Sarah Palin shoot all her kills and has she always shot all her kills?

alaska looks like a third world state

i have been seeing this throughout my life this abuse of power and corruption by the government officials. I was born in a 3rd world country. Alaska looks exactly the same. Choosing this bitch as a VP makes US also a 3rd world country. Look at the bitch's interview. First she said, the monegan firing is not related to her x-brother in law. Later she asks Attorney general to do an internal investigation, using public funds. The attorney general finds a audio cassette, in that her chief of staff clearly asking firing of her x-brother in law. Then bitch comes out and gives the audio cassette to news paper and changes her statement. This bitch is good for acting on the podium, not fit to be vp. Bringing down the state of Alaska and US.

Alaska looks like a third world state.

Hey Facker or should I say F__ker, your such a moron calling a Governor a "B_tch" what kind of person are you? Someone with no class or respect for women. I bet you can't even get laid because of your sexist remarks. If your so perfect how about we do a background probe on you or anyone of you liberal leftist and let's see what kind of dirt we can find so we can all be judgemental on people that run for President or VP. I think if we knew the truth about you or any of the Liberal Media, they would all shut up and let people live their lives whether they are right or wrong, we all make mistakes and were all not perfect especially people that like to attack other people. Like they are in a position to tell us Americans who is right or wrong. Like Jesus said the first person without sin shall cast the first stone. I bet you wouldn't be able to cast that stone and that goes for every person who is negative about Sarah Palin or Obama. "Can't we all just get along" for the better of the future of our American Children. They are the future and what are we all teaching them right now? How to be hateful towards a woman, how to drag dirt around, how to make accusations on things that are made up, how not to lead this country is what everyone of us is doing when we become negative. God help all of you that do not vote for Mc Cain & Palin come November 4th!!
