Why Walt Monegan got fired: Palin's abuse of power

NEW! Subscribe to RSS Feed

Last Friday, Commissioner of Public Safety Walt Monegan went into a meeting with Governor Sarah Palin's acting chief of staff thinking he was going to be discussing security for the governor's picnic. He left the meeting without a job.

The abrupt firing of Walt Monegan was a shock not only to him but all of the men and women of the Department of Public Safety. The way Monegan was fired raises serious questions about the governor's true motives.

So why was Walt Monegan fired out of the blue? Why would Governor Palin send a surrogate to fire her Public Safety Commissioner and then not have a decent explanation for the public? And why would Monegan's replacement be telling people three days before Monegan got fired, that he was going to become the new Commissioner of Public Safety?

Walt Monegan got fired for all of the wrong reasons. Walt Monegan got fired because he had the audacity to tell Governor Palin no, when apparently nobody is allowed to say no to Governor Palin.

Monegan said no, he couldn't cut his budget because his State Troopers were already being stretched to the limit and public safety suffering. He said no, he couldn't cut his budget because fuel costs for planes, boats and patrol vehicles soaring, while crime in rural Alaska was putting more demands on the Troopers transportation system.

But more alarming than any budget battle, Monegan said no to firing a State Trooper who had divorced Governor Palin's sister because the guy was being maliciously hounded by Palin's family.

And not just that; Monegan's firing came after his Colonel had to reprimand the governor's office for meddling in department personnel affairs.

Monegan's budget battles

When Walt Monegan was appointed, he realized the deep problems at DPS including low morale, understaffed detachments and the lack of a funding commitment to a long term vision.

He also recognized, that along with the strategic plan his department developed and introduced just months ago, there needed to be a commitment of resources to follow through on the public safety needs for Alaskans.

"We want out employees to know that help is on the way; that we are planning to grow our staff to provide both the needed services for this vast state, and the appropriate training necessary to do it", Monegan wrote in his 2008-17 Strategic Plan.

But the Palin administration wanted Monegan to go in another direction. They wanted him to cut corners on a budget that had already fallen behind over the last decade. Under Former Governor Murkwoski there was significant investment made to try and catch up with growing costs but Palin's budgets have again started to starve the agency.

To make matters worse, the change to the state's retirement benefit program adopted by the legislature in 2004 has had a negative effect on the departments ability to recruit new Troopers.

Meanwhile, since Governor Palin appointed Walt Monegan in 2007, she has spent less than one hour in face to face discussions with him about the critical public safety issues in Alaska.

And her fy09 budget for public safety clearly shows the results of her lack of understanding about the challenges that DPS faces.

According to the Legislative Finance Agency, the public safety budget in fy09 was cut by .06% from what the governor originally proposed while the governor's own budget increased 22.6% over what she originally proposed.

The problem for Palin was that Monegan was vocal about his concerns about the growing problems in rural Alaska due to alcohol and drug abuse and recognized that the state needed to invest more in protecting the public.

A few months ago, Monegan warned that Troopers were stretched so thin with no funding support coming from the administration that they might not be able to respond to all calls and even suggested the department prepare a statement for when those situations occurred

Monegan and his department were getting too far out in front of Palin, acting in ways that were independent and contrary to the governor's wishes. Palin needed to replace Monegan with someone who would be seen but not heard while doing the governor's bidding.

That's why Palin replaced Monegan with Chuck Kopp from Kenai, an  old Palin family acquaintance who is more likely to follow the governor's line and never say no.

Monegan, ever the good cop, even advocated for a safer Alaska after he was relieved of his duties. In an interview with KTUU on Sunday, two days after he was unceremoniously fired by one of Palin's surrogates, he stated that he informed the administration of a few things that should not be ignored, including the current economic situation in Alaska's rural communities, where he believes poor fishing returns could potentially cause social unrest.

"Thefts increase. Domestic violence increases. When you apply a lot of stress on a situation, money and fuel oil are an absolute hope at some point.  And unless we band together as a government to address it head on it could be very bad," Monegan said.

Walt Monegan was fired because he fought too hard. Governor Palin fired Monegan because she understood too little and wanted a puppet as commissioner.

But there was another reason that contributed to Monegan's ouster; a more alarming reason.

Trooper Mike Wooten: Being hunted by the governor

In the fall of 2004, Trooper Mike Wooten had decided the differences between he and his wife Molly of four years had grown to the point of being irreconcilable. His wife just happened to be the younger sister of Sarah Palin.

The beginning of the divorce proceedings set off a chain of bizarre and chilling events that has continued through today. During that time it has resulted in the governor and her family trying to ruin the career of an eight year Alaska State Trooper that has served his state on the SERT Team, Motor Unit and DUI Team.

Beginning in spring of 2005 and for the next ten months, over 25 formal complaints were filed by Palin and Heath family members against Trooper Mike Wooten. From drinking while driving his patrol car to making threats to shooting a moose without a permit.

According to Trooper records, Sarah Palin said that in January and February of 2005, Wooten was drinking while driving. After investigating the complaint, the investigator found that Palin never actually saw what she reported.

In another complaint, Sarah's father said that Wooten made threatening remarks. Again, the investigator found there was no probable way that it could have happened.

In all cases except one, the charges were ruled unfounded after an internal investigation. And the one charge that was valid, Wooten immediately admitted to.

In 2003, Wooten, his wife and a friend were moose hunting. Upon spotting a moose, Wooten instructed his wife to shoot the moose since she had the permit, she refused so Wooten did.

After carting the moose back to town, Sarah's father actually butchered it in his garage, and Wooten shared the meat with both Sarah and Todd Palin as well as her parents. Two years later, during the divorce battle, the family filed a complaint alleging that Wooten had taken that moose illegally. At least they waited until they finished the meat to file the complaint against Wooten.

But it didn't stop there. Threatening phone calls, private detectives that were hired to follow Wooten, notes left on windshields, Todd Palin taking pictures then submitting them to Wooten's supervisor, all designed to intimidate Wooten into backing off from demanding equal child custody rights.

But every time they filed a spurious complaint, the Troopers would bring in an Administrative Investigator who after seeing more than two dozen of these ridiculous and time consuming complaints stated that in all his years he had never seen such a shotgun pattern against one officer.

Meanwhile in court, Wooten prevailed at every turn as Judge Suddock quickly realized there was a concerted effort to damage Wooten. Finally the judge warned that if any of their actions caused Wooten to lose his job or pay in anyway, Molly and her family would be held liable.

After the divorce was final in late 2005 things settled down, until last fall.

At the request of the court, Wooten and his ex-wife were instructed to return to re-visit the custody schedule. Once the paper work started in April of 2008, the complaints and the intimidation started all over again.

But now Wooten wasn't dealing with just Sarah Palin, he was dealing with Governor Sarah Palin.

On April 23, 2008 in written testimony to the court, Palin denied ever making claims against Wooten, when in fact she had emailed a State Trooper Colonel in April of 2005 accusing Wooten of driving drunk.

Twice in the last few months complaints were filed by the governor's office accusing Wooten of improperly using his patrol car. Both times he was visiting his kids at school and both times he had permission from his sargent. The last complaint came in May after Todd Palin saw Wooten pulling out of the school parking lot and six days later the complaint landed on Wooten's supervisor's desk.

During the legislative session this past spring, Palin reportedly told Commissioner Monegan to fire Wooten because he was giving Troopers a bad name. However Monegan said he would do no such thing.

A short time afterwards, it was discovered that confidential material in Wooten's Administrative Investigation file had been released to his ex-wife and her attorney. This drew outrage from the Public Safety Union as well as the Commissioner. AI files are strictly confidential and can only be released with the written signature of the Trooper, but yet no one could explain how the detailed confidential information was released.

Reportedly, both Commissioner Monegan and Colonel Audie Halloway warned that if they found out the file was leaked by the governor's office, they would pursue charges.

Unfortunately, Commissioner Walt Monegan has been fired and word on the street is Colonel Audie Halloway's days are numbered as the new commissioner brings in those who won't object when the governor uses the Troopers as her own private security force.

The most tragic part of this whole story is Trooper Mike Wooten. For the last four years his children have endured inexcusable stress at the hands of the governor and her family. The same governor who has been on television telling Alaskans how important it is to love your kids and spend time with them. Truth be told, Governor Palin should watch her own television commercial.

For eight years, Trooper Mike Wooten has served the people of the State of Alaska by putting his life on the line to protect them from harm. Today the question is; who will protect Wooten from the blatant abuse of power now that the governor has free hands.

Commissioner Walt Monegan was fired because he fought for his employees, he fought for a safer Alaska and he didn't care if he had to fight Governor Palin to do it.

In the mean time, God help Trooper Mike Wooten.

In reading Wooten's

In reading Wooten's testimony he states that hunting by proxy is common in Gov. Palin's family and her tags were filled by her father for both moose and caribou. I assume this is probably a fairly common practice in Alaska, but is it legal? Does Sarah Palin shoot all her kills and has she always shot all her kills?

alaska looks like a third world state

i have been seeing this throughout my life this abuse of power and corruption by the government officials. I was born in a 3rd world country. Alaska looks exactly the same. Choosing this bitch as a VP makes US also a 3rd world country. Look at the bitch's interview. First she said, the monegan firing is not related to her x-brother in law. Later she asks Attorney general to do an internal investigation, using public funds. The attorney general finds a audio cassette, in that her chief of staff clearly asking firing of her x-brother in law. Then bitch comes out and gives the audio cassette to news paper and changes her statement. This bitch is good for acting on the podium, not fit to be vp. Bringing down the state of Alaska and US.

Reply to Alaska as a third world state

I agree with the writer about Alaska looking like a third world state. The abuse of power and corruption goes all the way to the Alaska National Guard Generals, Campbell and Kacuss. Because I am a Guardsman, I have valid concerns about possible retribution for speaking out and most Guardsmen are so intimidated won't speak out ever. These Generals are lap dogs for the Governor and Lt.Governor. They are on a power trip and are liars and rogue Generals. I have evidence of things they did against military laws. I wish I knew where to go because there is such corruption there isn't a safe sanctuary.

Alaska looks like a third world state.

Hey Facker or should I say F__ker, your such a moron calling a Governor a "B_tch" what kind of person are you? Someone with no class or respect for women. I bet you can't even get laid because of your sexist remarks. If your so perfect how about we do a background probe on you or anyone of you liberal leftist and let's see what kind of dirt we can find so we can all be judgemental on people that run for President or VP. I think if we knew the truth about you or any of the Liberal Media, they would all shut up and let people live their lives whether they are right or wrong, we all make mistakes and were all not perfect especially people that like to attack other people. Like they are in a position to tell us Americans who is right or wrong. Like Jesus said the first person without sin shall cast the first stone. I bet you wouldn't be able to cast that stone and that goes for every person who is negative about Sarah Palin or Obama. "Can't we all just get along" for the better of the future of our American Children. They are the future and what are we all teaching them right now? How to be hateful towards a woman, how to drag dirt around, how to make accusations on things that are made up, how not to lead this country is what everyone of us is doing when we become negative. God help all of you that do not vote for Mc Cain & Palin come November 4th!!

In his testimony Mr.Wooten

In his testimony Mr.Wooten states that Ms. Palin and her family practiced hunting by proxy regularly. Is this true? Has she had tags for moose and caribou filled with animals she did not kill?

abuse of power

I hope there's someone out there with the right set to SUE her ass off. The timing couldn't be more perfect. Her nomination is an outrage. Just keep the drips coming. It will soon be over. be safe

Nice work

Andrew, I'm not one of your regular readers, but someone sent me a link to your blog via email and I had a chance to read through this. If there is more to print, I encourage you to do so. We have to get the truth out before the coverup begins. I've heard several people online talk of going onto the State of Alaska website and saving documents on their harddrives for fear some of this stuff will be deleted when the shit hits the fan. Also maybe you can address the rumors of whether Palin is being vetted after the fact (as in after the announcement was made). This is also very disturbing. D

Mike Wooten - I understand how he must feel

Mr. Halcro, Excellent article. I've been advised by someone of outstanding intergrity who is familiar with you that your word is straight up. I happened to be in Anchorage around July 16 when some of this testimony by Walt came out in the paper, and I was astonished, but certain it's true. Here's a guy who dedicated his life and career to public safety, and sounds like he had darn good plans for developing the department, when all of a sudden, BAM. He gets fired. Sounds real fishy to me. And, the poor guy Mike Wooten getting hosed by former wife, family, and SARAH, is something I personally empathize with. I've been dealing with a vengeful, insane ex-wife for over five years, and had to fight (successfully, thank God) false charges of just about everything that could be claimed, over and over again. IT'S REAL DISTURBING THAT SAHAH HAS BEEN TAPPED AS THE REPUBLICAN V.P. CANDIDATE WHILE THESE CHARGES ARE UNRESOLVED. IT SEEMS LIKELY THAT NO MATTER WHAT THE OUTCOME OF THE ALASKA INVESTIGATION, IF McCAIN AND SARAH WIN THIS FALL, THE CONSEQUENCES SHE'LL RECEIVE WILL BE NIL. Some have said she'll be the "Teflon V.P." I hope not. Thank You, Tom Cleese

Bias Article

Why don't you share with everyone what Trooper Wooten did? He used a taser gun on his own son. He was drinking alcohol on duty. Sounds like the guy is a real jerk. Why should state troopers not be held to the same standards that they have sworn to uphold and enforce? Regardless, Alaska is a small state. Everyone here does have connections. This whole case is purely circumstantial.

If you have any links to

If you have any links to support what you say about Palin's efforts, especially with the false allegations, I'd appreciate it if you could show them. Thanks!

I would have fired him.

Wooten sounds like a bad apple. The only abuse of power that I see is Monegan's refusal to remove an egocentric officer because of the "good ol' boy" system that will never find one of their own officers to be at fault. I know Wooten's type. We have plenty of them in my department. They are the type that get into law enforcement because they have an intimidating demeanor and it makes them feel macho. He should have been canned a long time ago.

Trooper-Gate; People-Gate

While Guv. Palin has clearly abused her authority and this trooper sounds like a decent guy, welcome to the abuse-of-power cycle that is happening to so many decent people. Most of us do not have the benefit of being supported by their sargeant, their colonel and such. I am envious of that at least. Beyond that though, most of us get completely wiped out in divorce court, relieved of our possesions and stripped of a lifes work, we strive to continue albeit on a new low material plain. And, for some of us, we become awakened to a more important life. His was, and remains, an 'important case' in "family" court. For the rest of us, well, we are treated simply as inconvenience somewhere between lunch and dinner and treated as such by the judge by way of personal denigration, sneers, open threats and overt ridicule. Obviousy, I have been on the receiving end of what this trooper has endured; and worse, believe it or not. The wilder the claim; the more the percieved credibility. Judges want to be entertained, doing law is simply boring and ineffective. Everyone is reduced to being treated as a criminal;even if educated, tax filings since 18 years-old in-hand and not even so much as a speeding ticket, as was my case. Nevermind though, scorned woman + big lawyers get the judges attention. So, while I agree and actually like what I know of this trooper; remind me, why should I care again? We live in a society where the law is applied from the bottom up; not from the top down. Trooper Wooten doing what? DUI's on broke people struggling to calm the fears of their very existence by having a drink? I do not advocate drunk driving. But I know personally that having a drink can make the ground a little softer after you lose your home and find yourself sleeping in campsites. Trooper Wooten seems to have come upon this realization as well. Perhaps he started drinking after his divorce; I don't know for sure but it would make sense and who could blame him for being human. But, then again, did he not judge all of us as a Trooper, wrapped in a holier-than-though-costume dressed as though he was ready to invade Poland? How many people did he send to jail who were in a really bad place and simply just did'nt fit his penal code book? My experience is that any justice being dispensed in court is purely by accident. Trooper Wooten and Palin's over-reaching interferences are the reason why none of us can feel safe in this; our society of personal gain. A man could be forgiven for thinking these 'folks' are simply feeding upon themselves. Maybe that way we can get our democracy back; maybe.

Good grief, Time to grow up.

Folks, we might not like it, but abuse of power is the way things are. Should they be different? YES. Will they change because of this? NO. While we all strive for a better government, one without abuses of power, hinging a dislike for a Governor on details of her personal life are naive and childish. ALL in power have skeletons in the proverbial closet. Why not concentrate on things that are important to the well-being of the state and end the tantrum over one guy getting fired unjustly. Get over it. Make your mark at the next election.

Question

Andrew. Why is it so many people cannot see the repeated "non-answers", the vague denials, and the endless doubletalk that Sarah and her people are spouting over the last week? There are literally too many instances to name, although I will highlight a few that haven't been hit on already. When asked about Monegan's assertions of being pressured, Todd Palin says "I don't recall" or "I don't remember", as does commissioner Kreitzer. These are not denials, they are non-committal responses. Col. Holloway, when asked if he told the governors office to back off of Wooten, "I cannot say". Darn right, because he still has his job and it would be unprofessional to say as long as he does, but that is not a no. Today Palin, after taking a week and finding nothing better, plagiarizes Commissioner Monegan's "Strategic Compass" and presents HIS priorities and ideas as her own. Some NEW direction! My favorite is her sound bite tonight on KTUU where she talks about the returning National Guardsmen who will need jobs. HELLO??? If one is in the National Guard it is because they already have a job. Remember "One weekend a month, 2 weeks a year" anyone? Those who are deployed in the guard already have a job which is, by federal law, guaranteed to be waiting for them upon their return from active duty. I would think someone with a child in the military and who is such a strong supporter of our military would know this already. I am a born again Palin supporter and now can see through the empty words and glossy smile. I only hope this episode will light the way for others out there as well.

MONEGATE

JUST LISTENED TO THE LATEST ON KTUU. WELL, GEE NEW DIRECTION? DON'T THE POLITICOS DO THAT BEFORE THEY TAKE OFFICE. WAS THERE SOME EPIPHANY THAT DICTACTED AN NEWER DIRECTION? WHAT BAD TIMING OR CERTAINLY A PAINFULL COINCIDENCE. IS SOMEONE PRESIDING OVER THEIR OWN DISSOLUSIONMENT?

Palins sister

Hey now we all wanna see pictures of Sarah's sister. Is there more than one sister? Thats what we want who cares about the rest.

You and Lyda Green are 2 of

You and Lyda Green are 2 of the most catty, vicious, and vindictive people I have ever read. Half of these "anonymous" comments sound like Lyda spewing her hatred. You make Wooten out like a victim. Remember HE IS A STATE TROOPER and as such has accountability for his actions. So far, we've been told that he poached, drove his squad car drunk, threatened to KILL people, and tasered a child. Any ONE of these for a civilian would be a chargable offense, but for a STATE TROOPER who is sworn to UPHOLD THE LAW, there should have been more than a "5 day suspension". And for Walt Monegan to refuse to do more than that sends the message to the troopers under him and to all citizens that troopers are above the law and exempt from prosecution. No wonder Sarah filed 35 complaints. But little good it did her. And that is exactly the problem in my opinion. When Owens in Nome was FINALLY taken seriously as a suspect in that murder case, it was only after tremendous pressure on the dept from witnesses that saw her get into his squad car. Law enforcement has traditionally "protected" its own and obviously still does under Walt Monegan. Look at Trooper Spitzer who has been repeatedly reassigned instead of fired after he VICIOUSLY assaults a citizen and is then sued again and again. It would be nice to have a head of LAW ENFORCEMENT who would send a strong message that no more double standards will be tolerated. I am hoping that that is the new direction that Sarah was talking about. Step away from ur hatred for Sarah and look at what you call facts a little more carefully.

Andrew's Response:

I don't hate Sarah...and saying that only gives cover to those who want to defend the actions of her husband and her administration who exercised a complete abuse of power in trying to intimidate Commissioner Monegan to fire an employee.

That is the story.

You're right..double standards shouldn't be tolerated.

But that includes promising an ethical government and then having your husband and employees try to use their political power to get even with others.

Poaching

Wooten is obviously no saint. He also isn't the story here as Andrew has had to repeat so many times for those that cannot face the fact that Sarah Palin has some real issues herself. Some of them include breaking the law. As for poaching, Sarah and her father are as guilty as Wooten and it was not a poaching offense. He was hunting with his wife with a permit in her name (for a cow I presume). This is meat hunting - Valley-Style. Most people would likely assist after a bad shot. Looks like Wooten jumped the gun. I wonder how many valley residents are clean enough to throw the first stone? Not many I bet and certainly not Sarah or her dad. Palin isn't guiltless in this incident after having participated in the minor infraction by a cover up and by consuming the meat. Wooten is not a poacher. He also admitted to having taken the shot. Sarah won't admit anything and is now getting entangled in a web of lies. What has Lyda got to do with this? Do you work for Eddie Burke? If so, does this mean you became a shocked citizen because Eddie tazered you? I'll take a tazer stun over having to listen to him any day.

Clean enough to throw the stone?

Consider it cast from the Kenai Peninsula. So Wooten shoots the moose illegally and that is excusable as a "minor offense" (your words) but the Gov is guilty,("Palin isn't guiltless" your words again)and should be comdemned for eating the meat of the poached moose. He admitted to pulling the trigger, his wife had the tag, thats called POACHING. Particularly if you're not a Trooper.

Mirror it back at chu

So if Sarah ate the meat, she ate poached meat and should not have eaten it and turned it right at the moment. She should have turned her dad in for dressing it out. Typical entitlement!

What if Palin had Legitimate Safety Concerns?

Seems to me that IF Wooten was deemed a security threat to Palin & family -- in fact, especially if deemed so by Palin & family, and especially if Palin was in line to be Veep -- Monegan should not have disregarded those concerns. Custody proceedings in divorce are very emotionally driven events and what if Wooten was legitimately deemed a threat to the physical safety of Palin -- and Monegan disregarded that threat, after Wooten's repeated expressions of that threat to the Governor's safety "to bring Palin or Palin family down". Not knowing all the facts, and looking at these things as "IFs", wouldn't Monegan's disregard of that threat be a legitimate concern to the Governor and/or future Veep candidate. In other words, the fact that Wooten had a personal and/or familial connection to Palin does NOT mean that Palin and/or Palin family is not entitled to deem that Wooten is a threat who should be considered. So, Palin and/or Palin family's motivation was not out of revenge etc., but legitimate concern for the Governor's safety being ignored by Palin's own chief law enforcement official. I'm not saying this was the case; but if it was, Palin (and Palin family) would certainly be entitled to have their concerns for the Governor/Governor's family's safety acted on by Monegan, especially because she's Governor and especially because she may be Veep, and especially because those custody and domestic issues are emotionally powerful on someone in Wooten's position with his track record. If the above has validity, Monegan therefore put Palin in a bind by Monegan NOT acting on those concerns -- again, NOT out of revenge (and if anything Palin et al. would have had to act with some constraint because of the optics) but out of legitimate concerns, not only having bearing on Palin in her own right, but as Governor and possible future Veep. What was Palin to do (if, in fact, those concerns were real and Monegan repeatedly failed to act on those concerns)? (I smell a political motivating factor or connection on the part of Monegan's side, not Palin's -- especially since I've read some thumping from left wing, progressive, political sources on these recent events -- and now the unions have injected themselves in this.)

Besides,

I should also add that if was purely a concern for Palin safety why are the only documented complaints during her term as Governor were about improperly using his patrol car picking up his kids and something about abusing his workmans comp by riding a snowmobile and nothing about her safety?

There's a simple answer to

There's a simple answer to all your "what ifs". All Palin had to do was say that was the reason she fired Monegan but she didn't did she?

Just posted the below on the

Just posted the below on the Palinforvp blogsite for consideration including possible reply here by Mr. Halcro: "Seems to me that IF Wooten was deemed a security threat to Palin & family -- in fact, especially if deemed so by Palin & family, and especially if Palin was in line to be Veep -- Monegan should not have disregarded those concerns. Andrew's Response:

Given the fact that Governor Palin just became the first governor is memory to get rid of her security detail, it's hard to believe that was the case.

In fact, last week when the governor was in that car accident driving by herself there was legitimate concern that she was alone and had nobody there to assist her.

Again, hard to believe she felt an immediate threat from anyone since she decided to release her security detail.

Ehh, at least those kids

Ehh, at least those kids aren't getting tazed anymore. Anyone else would be immediately out of the running for custody after that. Who can blame someone for wondering if maybe some scumbag who beat on their little sister and drives with a baby in the car while drinking/ drunk should be a trooper. Not calling on that would make me question one's integrity. Sounds valid to me. If he cared so much about his family and being with his kids he should have been with them instead of banging his married girlfriend. Tacky. Wooten should have watched his own tv commercials about dui. Kids are better off not watching their mom get beaten. Kids are better off not getting tasered. Kids are better off not driving with drunken parents. I don't buy it. This whole article is propaganda. I expected more from you Andrew. Like, um, facts.

Concerned about the Children?

Aren't tazers considered safe? If not, why is every police department in the nation carrying them? I do not condone tazering a child, but does anyone know the circumstances of it? How old is the child, etc? Seems to me that if the guy was getting "told on" for going to his child's school to visit the child/children, that the guy might not be such a bad dad as the complaints showed. I know many guys that wouldn't care to see there kids & this guy is getting told on for stopping by their school to visit them? Those complaints were from the ex-wife & her family you know. Where did the "beat on the little sister" come from? Or the drinking complaints? Didn't Sarah's husband get arrested for DUI before? I have had a drink with dinner & drove home, I believe everyone has. Just so long as you don't over-do it, there shouldn't be an issue! Moose issue... I guess Sarah, her sister, and her family didn't have a problem with him shooting the moose for her that they had a legal tag of, until they were trying to find ways to get him in trouble! This is pretty pathetic, why not have called the police on him 3 years before when it happened? Why would Sarah & husband eat that illegally poached meat? Totally pathetic... I'd like to see this trooper come clean with all the dirt he has on Sarah & Family! I think this is just some poor guy that just happened to decide to divorce the "Governor's Sister" & that caused him a big mess. I actually feel sorry for the guy from what I have read... My ex-wife took me for everything, and she didn't even have family in "high places" so I could imagine how this guy was walking a tight rope! To know you have the Governor after you is pretty pathetic. ALSO PRETTY SAD that the Judge in the divorce case had to come out and threaten both the Governor & her family as well as the sister to lay off this guy. REALLY SAD - should have held them in contempt & let the trooper arrest 'em all!

child abuse

it will be interesting to see for those who ordered the divorce cd from what i understand there were never any allegations in it that wooten ever abused his children or molly son. Actually Peyton has been heard many time by his friends and class mates saying he thinks it is sad what his mom is doing to mike, that mike had been really good to him. The only complaint about that was in AI report by sarah. Also find it interesting to know that Molly was actually investigated for child abuse on her stepson at which there were several situations that she admitted to in the custody investigation report such as ......... holding him at age 7 or so under the water at the swimming pool, her excuse was well he said he could swim. HHHHHEEEELLLLOOOO do you hold a child that can swim under the water. She rolled his fingers up in the window in her car, how could you not know you are rolling a childs fingers up in the car if they are on the outside looking into your window. She admitted that. You want to start throw around child abuse charges why dont you look into that. It is said that people of washington said in thier state she would have been in jail for what she admitted for doing ! In court papers Molly very clearly says that Mike did not ever abuse the children, and if the dry taser was child abuse then i guess molly should be just as guilty as she did not oject to it at all. Children cry for quite a while when they get a good spanking from a parent yet peyton admitted to just going about his business and then bragged about it. Go figure. I am pretty sure that if you were going to be injured or killed by this dry taser they wouldnt be doing it in training situations. If you have spanked your child and they cried and screamed then i guess you are a child abuser because peyton didnt shed a tear. And it might be really intersting to know that for months after the seperation when the divorce was filed Molly was continuing to beg trooper wooten to come back to her and she wouldnt care what her family says and that she would be a better wife. I am pretty sure he might still have this documentation. Does that sound like someone that is scared of him. Maybe she was telling people different stories, go figure and they seem like such and honest group !

Whoa, back the truck up will you....

The tazing incident occurred once. Yes, not the brightest thing to do but neither are you sensationalizing that he tazed his children repeatedly. In addition, there were no substantiated claims of spousal or child abuse....again sensationalism and false allegations. Halcro didn't make this stuff up. He just did what the local news media should have done, and that is, investigate it and report it. Why didn't they? They didn't want to lose readership by offending her 'numerous' fans. Note: in light of recent developments that is probably now 'few' instead of numerous. Individuals such as yourself are grossly out-numbered. Instead of going after the source, you are shooting the messenger. Real brilliant.

child abuse

actually as soon as this divorce case got sent into anchorage that acusation was dissmissed and found absolutly ridiculous. For those of you that have ordered the court paperwork molly say very plainly in the paperwork at court that mike was never ever physically abusive to her. She said that his size is intimidating to her at which point the judge said well you married him and he was that big then. interesting enough it was sarah palin that filled out part of that paperwork in palmer at the court house with molly sitting next to her. I am pretty sure if you go to court for something and then it is found to be not true and dismessed then it needs to be let go. But maybe if you are a palin fan the the rules are all different. WOW if any of you have had to go through what he has gone through your tune may be a little different. MOLLY HERSELF TOLD MANY PEOPLE IN THE VALLEY INCLUDING MIKE WOOTEN HIMSELF WHICH I HAVE HEARD ON RECORDING THAT SARAH PALIN INSISTED THAT SHE GO FILE THIS PAPER WORK EVEN THOUGH MOLLY SAID THAT HE HAD NEVER TOUCHED HER. THAT IS ONE HONEST PERSON YOU ALL ARE STICKING UP FOR.

Pot calling kettle black

I thought infidelity was considered cool in the Palin family. Didn't Todd's dad get caught banging a string of his married secretaries in Palmer and Copper?
